Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Severino's Hat-Trick Leads The Owls Past Ottawa University

OTTAWA, Kan.—The William Woods University men's soccer team picked up its second consecutive victory on the year, thanks in large part to Alex Severino's hat-trick on Saturday night, which led WWU to a 3-2 victory over Ottawa University.

The Owls (2-1), outshot the Braves (0-5), 17-8, while Conor Cable totaled one save in 66:12 minutes played and Bridger Pretz appeared in 23:48 minutes of action.

The scoring got started for the Owls in the fourth minute, as Alex Severino netted his third goal on the year, to make it a 1-0 game. The team continued its offensive pressure, totaling seven shots in the half, while the defense stood tall, only allowing three shots.

Despite the teams' efforts, WWU was unable to extend the early advantage, but they still headed into the break ahead 1-0 on the Braves.

In the second half, Severino struck again the 50th minute, on an assist from Lendell Louis-Jacques, his third on the season, to make it a 2-0 game. Ottawa, however, answered, four minutes later, as Kyler Grimes scored his first goal on the year to make it a 2-1 outing.

The scoring frenzy in the 10:00 minute span, continued, as Severino netted his first collegiate hat-trick in the 59th minute, scoring the eventual game winner on an assist from fellow senior, Brett Hodges, to make it 3-1 WWU.

Ottawa, wouldn't give in though, as one minute and seven seconds later, Ross Anderson scored his first goal on the year past Cable, to put the scoreboard at 3-2.

That would conclude all the scoring, however, as WWU's defense held the Braves shot less until the 88th minute and with Cable holding down in net, the Owls were able to go on for the 3-2 victory.

Severino totaled a game-high six shots in the game, while Jesse Jordan came off the bench and added three. Louis-Jacques and Rhys Wallace, meanwhile, totaled two shots each. Of the eight shots by the Braves in 90:00 minutes of action, Anderson led the team with four, while Grimes contributed three shots.

With the win, the Owls move to 2-1 on the season and will look for its third win in a row against Central Methodist University on Tuesday, September 8th, at Firley Field. Kick-off will start at 7 p.m.
