Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men’s Soccer Blanks Lyon, 1-0

BATESVILLE, Ark. – The William Woods University Men's Soccer Team won its ninth match of the season on Saturday afternoon, when they defeated Lyon College, 1-0, in American Midwest Conference action.
 
The Owls lone goal came with under 15 minutes to go in the contest. Claiming the winning goal was Jesse Bowers. The Owls were outshot in the contest, 17-10, but held a slight edge in shots on goal, 7-5.
 
William Woods returns to action on October 15th when they host Central Baptist College at Firley Field. Kickoff is set for 3 p.m. This is also senior day for the Owls Men's Soccer team.
 
Game Flow
Early in the contest against the Scots, the Owls were looking to get on the board early as they had the first shot attempt on goal in the contest. The Owls Jesse Jordan put a shot on goal which was saved by Gianni Santin. After Jordan's shot the Owls were held without a shot for the remainder of the 42 minutes of the first half.
 
After the Owls lone shot of the half, the shots for the Scots start to happen. During a 10 minute spurt, halfway through the first half, Lyon had five shot attempts, however, only one shot was on goal and Jon Moore Jr. made the save.
 
Lyon had one more opportunity to score with 14:17 left in the first half when Ali Fawaz had a shot that was saved by Moore Jr. This was the last shot attempt of the half and the Scots and Lyon would go into halftime scoreless.
 
Like the first half, the Owls came out firing shots on goals as Bowers had a shot that was saved by Santin within a minute of the first half starting. Fifteen minutes later, Jesse Jordan had a shot go wide for the Owls. Later in the second half, the Owls Alberto Pitarch had a shot on goal, which was saved by Santin. Less than 50 seconds later, Anthony Moscatello had a shot that was saved by Santin.
 
Ulises Caba Cordova had a shot that was on goal but Moore Jr. made the save to keep the game scoreless.
 
WWU broke the scoreless tie with 12:41 left in the contest when Jesse Bowers found Rodrigo Alves, who beat Santin putting the Owls ahead 1-0. Bowers goal was the last shot for the Owls in the contest, but it was enough as the Scots only had two more opportunities to score in the contest, one saved by Moore Jr. and the other shot went wide.
 
The Owls came away with a 1-0, victory.
