Women’s Soccer Shutout Lyon, 2-0

BATESVILLE, Ark. – The William Woods University Women's Soccer Team won its third straight American Midwest Conference (AMC) contest as they shutout Lyon College, 2-0, on Saturday morning in Batesville, Arkansas.
 
Brooke Hendrix and Renee Meyer each scored a goal in the second half of the contest to lift the Owls to the victory. The Owls outshot the Scots, 15-13 in the contest.
 
William Woods returns to action on Tuesday, October 11th when they host Stephens College at Firley Field at 7 p.m.
 
Game Flow
The Owls offense came out firing as Meyer recorded the first shot of the contest three minutes into the game but her shot went wide. Five minutes later the Owls continued to fire shots on goal as Halle Schroeder shot went wide.
 
After Schroeder's shot, the Scots countered as they went down the field and Jessica Souza took a shot that went wide, for Lyons first shot of the game.
 
The Owls best chance to score came with 19:07 left in the first half when Shelby Wiebe had a shot on goal but Ali Ertl recorded the save keeping the game scoreless. WWU also had shots on goal with under 10 minutes to go in the half, as Haley Pipes and Shelby Scanlan had shots on goal but Ertl made the saves. The game would go into halftime scoreless.
 
Lyon looked to have the offensive momentum early in the second half as Souza had two shots on goal that were saved by Rebecca Sturgess.
 
After Souza's second shot the Owls finally broke onto the scoreboard with 31:33 left in the second half. Senior Brooke Hendrix took a pass from Jenna Vogt and beat Ertl putting the Owls ahead, 1-0. This was Hendrix first goal of the season.
 
William Woods continued to mount the offensive pressure on the Scots as Elyssa Cappaert had a shot on goal but again Ertl made the save keeping the game 1-0 in favor of the Owls.
 
With 13:16 left in the contest, the Scots best chance to score game as Souza another shot. This time her shot hit the crossbar keeping the Owls ahead, 1-0.
 
The Owls added an insurance goal with just under eight minutes to go in the contest. After a foul, that happened in the box, resulted in an Owls penalty kick. Renee Meyer took the penalty kick and beat Ertl putting the Owls ahead, 2-0.
 
The Scots had no answer and William Woods came away with its third straight shutout victory. The Owls improved to 4-6-1 on the season and 3-3 in American Midwest Conference action.
