FULTON, Mo. – The William Woods University scored its most goals this season in a single game with five as they defeated Stephens College, 5-1, on Tuesday evening at Firley Field in American Midwest Conference (AMC) action.
Halle Schroeder led the Owls scoring two of the five goals on the game. She also collected one assists in the match.
Jenna Vogt followed with three assists in the contest.
Lindsey Ellerman picked up the win for the Owls as she recorded three saves in the contest.
The Owls return to action on Saturday, October 15 when they host Central Baptist College at 1 p.m. at Firley Field.
Game Flow
The Owls offense came out clicking in the contest as they had three shot attempts in the first three minutes of the contest. However, only one shot was on goal, which was saved the other shots were blocked and wide of goal.
With just over 29 minutes left in the first half, the Owls offense scored the first goal of the contest.
Jenna Vogt found
Halle Schroeder on a pass. Schroeder made a pass to
Renee Meyer, to beat Maeghan Ely for the first goal of the game. About a minute later the Owls added to its lead. The play started with Vogt making a pass to
Alex Langford. Langford then found
Hailey LaCroix for the goal extending the Lead to 2-0.
William Woods added its third goal of the contest about two minutes later. Vogt received her third assist of the night, when she found
Halle Schroeder, who beat Ely extending the Owls lead to 3-0, with 26 minutes to go in the first half.
The Stars had a shot attempt on the Owls goal with 14 minutes to go in the first half. Caitlyn Gardner had a shot that
Lindsey Ellerman saved keeping the Owls ahead, 3-0.
The Owls had four more shots in the first half, all by
Brooke Hendrix. Her first shot went high and second was blocked. She put the final two on goal by Ely made the save. The game went into halftime with the Owls leading, 3-0.
WWU wasted little time in the second half extending its lead to 4-0. Thirty second into the half,
Jaclyn Zilch intercepted a base and beat Ely. Less than ten minutes later the Owls extend its lead to 5-0 when Meyer found Schroeder for her second goal of the contest.
Stephens added its only goal in the contest with 26:22 left in the game when Martha Noelker beat Ellerman putting the Stars down, four, 5-1.
The Owls continued to put shots on the board as they had a season-high 38 shots in the game. WWU did not score again in the game and the Owls came away with a 5-1 victory over the Stars.
