FULTON, Mo. – The William Woods University Women's Soccer team scored a season-high seven goals in the contest as the Owls defeated Central Baptist College, 7-0, on Saturday afternoon at Firley Field on the campus of William Woods. With the win for the Owls they improved its winning streak to five games.
Shelby Scanlan and
Jaclyn Zilch led the Owls with two goals apiece in the contest. Brook Hendrix,
Shelby Wiebe and
Halle Schroeder each scored one goal in the contest.
Alex Langford led the Owls with three assists in the contest.
WWU returns to action on Wednesday, October 19th when they host Park University at Firley Field. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m.
Game Flow
William Woods shots came early and often in the contest against the Mustangs as they took a season-high 53 shots in the contest. The Owls had four shots in the first seven minute of the contest but could not score.
After a Mustangs shot, the Owls had five more shots on goal but could not get one past Kalynn Simpson. On the Owls first corner kick of the contest,
Alex Langford served on into the box that
Shelby Scanlan headed home putting the Owls ahead 1-0.
Less than two minutes later, the Owls added its second goal of the contest as senior Brook Hendrix found Scanlan, who scored her second goal of the contest, putting the Owls ahead 2-0.
William Woods offense was not done as the Owls extended the lead to 3-0 later in the first half. On a corner kick taken by
Renee Meyer, Meyer served it into the box and
Shelby Wiebe found the back of the next.
The Owls shots continued but they did not score again in the first half and they went into halftime leading 3-0.
Six minutes into the second half the Owls grew its lead to 4-0.
Elyssa Cappaert found a striking
Alex Langford who
Halle Schroeder for the goal. The goal by Schroeder was the Owls fourth goal of the contest.
WWU offense continued to click on all cylinders as they scored its fifth goal of the contest with 28:31 left in the contest. Wiebe found Hendrix for the goal. The Owls offense kept the pressure on the Mustangs as they continued to take shots as Simpson recorded 18 saves in the contest.
With under three minutes' left in the contest, the Owls continued to add to its lead as
Alex Langford picked up her third assists of the match when
Jaclyn Zilch headed in the pass for the Owls sixth goal of the game. With under 30 seconds to go in the contest Zilch added her second goal of the game when she beat Simpson putting the Owls ahead, 7-0.
With the win the Owls won its fifth game in a row and improved to 6-6-1 on the season and 5-3 in AMC action.
