FULTON, Mo. – The William Woods University Men's Soccer team dropped it second straight contest as Park University defeated the Owls, 2-1, in double overtime on Monday night in American Midwest Conference action.
Rodrigo Alves scored the lone goal for the Owls. This was his 11th goal of the season for the Owls, which is tied for the most goals this season in the AMC.
WWU returns to action on Thursday, October 27th when they travel to St. Louis, Missouri to face Harris-Stowe State University. Kick-off is set for 3 p.m.
Game Flow
In a highly contest match, the Owls and Pirates both looked to get its offenses going early in the contest. Alves had the first shot of the game but his shot went high. After a Park shot wen high, the Owls had the next four shots, two by Alves, whose shots went wide and high. Jesse Bower added another shot that was high and Alves had another shot blocked.
Two minutes after Alves' shot was blocked,
Jesse Jordan put two shots on goal that Thalu Masindi saved keeping the game scoreless. About 40 seconds after Jordans second shot, the Pirates countered. Guillermo Carrasco found Nicolas Andre, who beat,
Conor Cable for the first goal of the contest.
Anthony Moscatello looked to get the Owls on the board late in the first half but his shot was saved by Masindi and the Owls would find themselves going into halftime down, 1-0.
Park looked to extend the Owls lead in the early parts of the second half but Cable came up with a couple of saves and the Pirates shots missed wide.
With just under 25 minutes left in the second half,
Lendell Louis-Jacques sent a crossing pass into the box. The first player was
Satchel Manley to get a head on the pass, but his header looked to be going wide. Alves then headed the ball into the goal for the Owls first goal of the game and tying the game at 1-1.
The Owls looked to answer right back four minutes later as Bowers had two shots on goal that were saved. After Bower's chances to score, the Pirates had a shot that was taking by Isaias De La Torre but his shot was saved by Cable.
WWU's offense would not go away with under 15 minutes to go in the contest, Jordan, Manley, and Smic all had shots that were saved.
Matheus Schmid had two shots that went high. The game would stay tied at 1-1 and we were headed to overtime.
The Pirates would hold possession of the ball the majority of the first overtime as they had two shots in the period. Pedro De Souza had a shot that Cable saved and he also had a shot go high. The Owls lone shot was by Louis-Jacques but it was high and the Owls and Pirates would go to a second overtime period.
With both teams looking to control possession in the second overtime period, the ball was headed back and forth until Park's Tim Kloster got a foot on the ball. He flicked a high floating shot on goal that went over Cables head giving the Pirates a 2-1 double overtime win.
