ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The William Woods University Men's Soccer team snapped a two-game losing streak with a 4-0 victory over Harris-Stowe State University in American Midwest Conference action on Thursday afternoon.
The Owls had four different players,
Matheus Schmid,
Jesse Jordan,
Rodrigo Alves and
Rhys Wallace score goals in the contest. The shutout was the eighth of the season for the Owls.
The Owls return to action on Saturday, October 29th when they host St. Louis College of Pharmacy at 3 p.m.
Game Flow
The Owls offense came out quick in the contest as they scored two goals in the first ten minutes of the contest. Within the first five minutes of the contest,
Jesse Jordan found
Matheus Schmid who beat Bryndan Lightfoot putting the Owls ahead, 1-0.
Less than a minute later
Lendell Louis-Jacques put a shot on goal that was saved. Coming off an Owls corner kick by Louis-Jacques, Jordan put the second goal in the back of the net for the Owls, extending the lead to 2-0.
William Woods offense continued to keep the pressure on the Hornets as they Alves, Schmid and Louis-Jacques all put shots on goal late in the first half, but Lightfoot made the saves keeping the Owls lead stay at 2-0.
Sergio Pomajambo put Harris-Stowes only shot on goal in the contest with four minutes to go in the first half. Pomajambo shot was saved by
Conor Cable. The Owls and Hornets went into halftime with the Owls lead 2-0.
Like the first half, the Owls as they scored a goal in the first 10 minutes of the second half. Scoring the third goal for the Owls was Alves. Alves took a pass from
Anthony Moscatello putting the Owls ahead 3-0. The goal by Alves was his 12th goal of the season.
The Owls added its fourth goal of the game with 11:43 left in the contest. Schmid found
Rhys Wallace for his first goal of the game.
William Woods defense did not allow the Hornets to get another good opportunity to score in the contest as the Owls came away with a 4-0 victory.
