FULTON, Mo. – The William Woods University men's soccer team scored a school record 15 goals in a 15-0 victory over St. Louis College of Pharmacy in American Midwest Conference action on Saturday afternoon at Firley Field.
The Owls, who have qualified for the American Midwest Conference Men's Soccer Championships will wait and see who they play in the quarterfinals, which takes place on Saturday, November 5th.
Game Flow
The Owls scored early and often on Saturday afternoon, as
Rodrigo Alves got the Owls on the board first. Alves took a pass from
Anthony Moscatello, who beat Nedzad Idrizovic for a goal. This put the Owls ahead 1-0.
WWU kept the pressure on the Eutectics as they had a few more shots on goal by Idrizovic made the save. WWU's lead grew to 2-0 with 25:35 left in the first half, when
Lendell Louis-Jacques found Alves for his second goal of the contest.
Less than ten minutes later in the contest,
Jesse Jordan found
Alberto Pitarch for the Owls third goal of the game extending the lead to 3-0. Six minutes later, the Eutectics were called for a foul in the box and Alves had a penalty kick. Alves found the back of the net, giving him a hat trick, and the Owls lead 4-0.
Two minutes later, Jordan collected his second assists of the match as he found
Nick Tiberghien for the Owls fifth goal of the first half. WWU offense continued to click as Louis-Jacques hit the crossbar on a shot. The Owls did not allow a shot, by St. Louis College of Pharmacy in the first half and WWU led 5-0 at halftime.
William Woods continued to score in the second half of the contest as they scored two goals in the first seven minutes of the half.
Drew Olson and Louis-Jacque both scored early in the second half. Olson scored on a pass from Louis-Jacque, while Louis-Jacque scored on a pass from Olson.
The Owls continued to score at will on the Eutectics as the Owls scored three goals in a five minute stretch, which saw goals by
Patrick Mota, Moscatello and
James Dodds. After the Owls 10th goal of the contest, St. Louis Pharmacy got its first shot of the contest when Alex Foote put a shot on goal in which
Conor Cable made the save.
The Owls scored five more goals in the contest and the Eutectics did not have an answer as the Owls came away with a 15-0 victory. The 15 goals is a school record for a single game for the Owls. It is the most goals since, September 10th, 2012 when the Owls scored 13 goals against Central Christian College.
