ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The William Woods University Women's Soccer team played Harris-Stowe State University to a 0-0 double overtime tie on Thursday afternoon on the campus of Harris-Stowe.
William Woods was outshot, 7-6, by the Hornets in the contest.
Brooke Hendrix led the Owls offensive attack as she had three of the Owls six shot, including two shots on goal.
Rebecca Sturgess made two saves to keep Harris-Stowe off the scoreboard.
The Owls return to action on Saturday, October 29th when they host St. Louis College of Pharmacy at 1 p.m. WWU will honor its seniors prior to the contest.
Game Flow
The Hornets had the best chances to score in the first half of the contest. With 28:26 left in the half, Megan Wilson missed a shot high. Two minutes later, Dominique Tedesco hit the most keeping the score scoreless.
Later in the first half, the Owls had its first shot on goal in the contest as
Alex Langford put a shot on goal, but her shot was stopped by Jenna Vitale. This was the Owls shot of the contest and it came with 11:05 left in the half.
After Langford's shot, neither team had an opportunity to score again in the first half and the game went scoreless into halftime.
The Owls offense looked to score quick in the second half as within the first minute of the half, WWU had its second shot on goal. This time it was from Brook Hendrix, but her shot was saved. William Woods kept the pressure on has
Halle Schroeder had a shot go high of goal.
Harris-Stowe looked to counter after the Owls missed opportunities as Wilson had another shot but the shot went high. The Hornets kept the pressure on the Owls defense as Kayla York had a shot on goal, but Sturgess made the save, keeping the game scoreless. The last shot of the second half game with three minute to go as Wilson missed a shot high and the game would go to overtime.
WWU had the only shot attempt in the first overtime period as Hendrix had a shot go wide of goal with 2:40 left in the first overtime.
The second overtime was dominated by the Owls offense. Within the first two minutes of overtime,
Shelby Scanlan had a shot on goal that was saved by Vitale. The pressure stayed on as later Hendrix had another shot on goal that was saved. WWU also had a corner kick with 38 second to go in overtime but could not get anything into the goal and the Owls and Hornets played to a 0-0 double overtime draw.
