FULTON, Mo. – The William Woods University Women's Soccer team defeated St. Louis College of Pharmacy, 5-1, on Senior day for the Owls at Firley Field.
Shelby Scanlan and
Brooke Hendrix scored two goals apiece for the Owls in the contest. William Woods outshot the Eutectics, 23-2, in the contest.
The Owls, who have qualified for the American Midwest Conference Women's Soccer Championships will wait and see who they play in the quarterfinals, which takes place on Friday, November 4th.
Game Flow
The Owls wasted little time scoring in the first half of the contest. The first four shots of the Owls all resulted in goals for WWU. The first goal came within two minutes of the start of the contest when
Elyssa Cappaert found
Shelby Scanlan, who beat Emily Nickels putting the Owls ahead 1-0.
Less than a minute later, senior
Halle Schroeder found
Brooke Hendrix for the Owls second goal of the contest putting the Owls ahead 2-0. Minutes later,
Rochelle Garcia, found Scanlan, for her second goal of the contest extending the Owls lead to 3-0. Hendirx added her second goal of the contest when Scanlan found Hendrix putting the Owls ahead 4-0.
WWU continued to put shots toward goal but Nickels came away with the saves. The Owls also go high and wide of goal. WWU scored its fifth goal of the contest late in the first half when
Jaclyn Zilch found the back of the net putting the Owls ahead, 5-0.
William Woods would take a 5-0 lead into halftime. The Owls did not allow St. Louis Pharmacy a shot in the first half of the contest.
With just under 32 minutes left in the second half, the Eutectics had its first shot of the contest when Michaela Drouin hit the crossbar.
The Owls kept the offensive pressure on as
Kailyn Graham hit the crossbar, Hendrix had a shot go high and
Haley Pipes had her shot saved by Nickels.
With 11:43 left in the contest, Emilee Broker got the first goal of the game for the Eutects when she beat Lindsay Ellerman trimming the lead down to four, 5-1.
WWU continued to pressure on the offensive end but they could not score and the Owls came away with a 5-1 victory on Senior Day.
