Volleyball Downs St. Louis Pharmacy in Three

FULTON, Mo. - The William Woods University Volleyball Team won its sixth American Midwest Conference game of the season after defeating St. Louis College of Pharmacy, 3-0 (25-11, 25-13, 25-21), on Thursday night. 
 
Senior Victoria Day led the Way for the Owls with 12 kills and was the only Owl in double figure kills. Brittney Engelbrecht had 24 assists in the match and Melanie Kala recorded a team-high 12 digs. 
 
The Owls returns to action on Wednesday, Oct. 12th when they host Columbia College at Anderson Arena at 7 p.m. William Woods against Columbia has been named the American Midwest Conference Volleyball Game of the Week. 
 
Game Flow
The William Woods Owls raced out to a 4-1 in the first set after an ace by Jessica Jensen. The Eutectics continued to keep the game close as a kill by Busola Oginni kill put St. Louis Pharmacy down two, 9-7. However, the Owls responded quickly as they scored the next nine points extending its lead to 18-7. During the stretch the Owls saw kills by four different players and they took advantage of the Eutectics attack errors. William Woods did not allow St. Louis Pharmacy to come back in the set and back-to-back kills by day and Libby Dove gave the Owls the set, 25-11.
 
St. Louis Pharmacy scored the first point of set two before the Owls raced back scoring the next three points on kills by Day, Kira Krebill and Abby Ferguson. St. Louis Pharmacy continued to keep it close and tied the set at 7-7 after a Dove attack error. After the Owls attack error, WWU rallied off the next four points taking an 11-7 lead. The Eutectics continued to battle and timed the lead to four, 15-11 after an Oginni kill. However, WWU did not let St. Louis Pharmacy get any close as the Owls closed the set by scoring 14 of the last 20 points, and Stephanie Davis closed out set two, with a kill 25-13.
 
Like set two, the Eutectics took the first point of the set and the Owls came back scoring the next four points of the set. The Owls extend its lead to eight, 14-6, after a Eutectics ball handling error. The Owls continued to grow its lead as they stretched it to ten, 18-8 after a Pharmacy attack error. The Eutectics did not go away quietly in the third set as they battled back trimming the lead down tow three, 21-18, after an ace by Amy Rotella. The Owls did not let them get any close and a service ace by Tory Wiley gave WWU the set, 25-21, and the match.
 
With the win the Owls improved to 16-9 on the season and 6-1 in American Midwest Conference action.
