Volleyball Falls in the AMC Semifinals to Park

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The William Woods University Volleyball team fell in the American Midwest Conference Semifinals in three to top seed Park University (25-15, 25-19, 25-19), on Friday evening in the Petty Sports and Recreation Center.
 
Stephanie Davis led the Owls with 12 kills in the match. Victoria Day followed with seven kills. Brittney Engelbrecht dished out 25 assists in the match. Jessica Jensen led the Owls with 23 digs in the match. The Owls collected a hitting percentage of .096 for the match. 

Game Flow
In set one, the Pirates ran away with an early lead, scoring the first three points of the match but after a service ace from Danna Gomes, Kira Krebill puts the Owls on the board, 3-1. The set then went point for point as both teams battled for possession of the ball. A service run by Salma Shatout would give the Pirates a three-point lead, and a kill by Brittney Engelbrecht would have the set score at 7-4. After a service run by Daniela Duarte and Corina Rodriguez, the Owls found themselves down by five, 14-9. The Owls could not find a rhythm as they struggled to keep possession of the ball, 18-12 set score. A service run by Kaci Crabtree would give the Pirates a lead of 11, 23-12. A Pirates mistake and a big block from Krebill and Abby Ferguson would add two points, 23-14. The Owls would fight to gain one more point as Wendy Romero closes out the set with a kill. 25-15.

Set two would go point for point, with a tied set until a kill by Davis would give the Owls the lead, 7-6. Neither team could take control as both teams fought for the lead. Another kill by Davis would give the Owls the lead, 8-7. With Engelbrecht serving and a kill by Day, the Owls were able to break away with a lead of three, 11-8. After a service run by Corina, the set was tied yet again at 11-11. The Owls would go point for point, after a kill by Wiley, set score 15-14. A kill by Davis would end the Pirate service streak, 18-15. A kill by Day would get the ball back for the Owls and after a Pirate mistake, the set score is 20-18. The Owls would squeeze one more point before finally falling in the second set, 25-19.

Fighting to stay alive, the Owls would begin the third set tied 1-1 before the Pirates would take the lead, 6-2. A service run by Kayton Coffee and a kills by Davis and Day would tie the set, 7-7. A service run by Paloma Bacellar would give the Pirates a six-point lead, 13-7. Pirate mistakes would give Day the ball for a service run, 17-12. A kill by Davis and timely mistakes by the Pirates would cut the lead to two, 20-18. The Owls would fight to stay alive, but kills by Romero would give Park the victory, 25-19.
