Brown Leads Women’s Basketball Past Central Baptist

CONWAY, Ark. – Junior Jasmine Brown led the Owls with 30 points en route to a 86-79 victory over Central Baptist College on Saturday afternoon. Brown shot 10-of-15 from the floor in the contest to lead the Owls to the victory.
 
April Gebke followed Brown with 22 points in the game on 8-of-14 shooting, including 4-of-8 from behind the arc. Brown and Gebke were the only two Owls in double figures for the contest.
 
William Woods returns to action on Tuesday, November 22nd when they travel to cross-town opponent, Westminster College. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m.  
 
Game Flow
In a back and forth first quarter neither the Owls nor the Mustangs wanted to take control of the contest. With Central Baptist ahead by four, 8-4, the Owls came back scoring the next five points to take a 9-8 lead after a field goal by Gebke. The lead traded hands a couple more times in the quarter and after the first quarter, Central Baptist led by two, 15-13.
 
The Owls offense came out struggling to score in the second quarter. However, the Mustangs could not pull away as they only held a six point lead, 24-18, with five minutes to go in the quarter. The lead grew to ten points before the Owls slowly crawled back into the contest and trimmed the lead down to two, 30-28, after a Kennedy Volkart jumper. The Owls would find themselves down two, 34-32, at halftime.
 
The lead would go back and forth in the third quarter as a jumper by Brown tied the game at 38-38, and Gebke gave the Owls a one point lead after hitting a free throw. After taking the lead the Owls grew the lead to four points, 42-38, before the Mustangs came back to take the lead at 43-42. Trailing by one, the Owls scored the next seven points capped by a Gebke three-pointer putting the Owls ahead 49-43. The Mustangs continued to battle as the lead continued to change hands. After three quarters of play the Owls led by two, 59-57.
 
Early in the fourth quarter, the Owls found themselves tied at 60-60 with Central Baptist. With the scored tied, WWU scored the next 11 points growing its lead to 11 points, 71-60. The 11-0 run was capped by a Gebke three-pointer. Central Baptist continued to battle and trimmed the lead down to three, 82-79, late in the fourth quarter but would not get any closer as the Owls came away with a 86-79 victory to improve to 2-0 in the AMC.
