COLUMBIA, Mo. – The William Woods University Men's Basketball team dropped its second straight contest as they were defeated by Baker University, 78-60, on the second day of the Columbia Cougar vs. Cancer Classic hosted by Columbia College.

Deon Pettigrew led the Owls with 15 points in the contest.
Jerel Wilhite followed with 10 points rounding out the double-figure scorers for the Owls.
Darrien Dickey led the Owls with seven rebounds. After the conclusion of the final game of the Cougar vs. Cancer Classic, Pettigrew was named to the Cougar vs. Cancer All-Classic Team.Â

WWU returns to action on Thursday, November 10th when they travel to Chicago, Illinois to face Moody Bible College. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m.

Game Flow
The Wildcats came out strong in the contest against the Owls as they scored nine points in the first four minutes of the contest as they held the Owls to two points. Over the next three minutes of the contest, the Owls would come back to trim the lead down to one, 12-11, after a pair of three throws by
Shannon James.

The game would stay close but the Wildcats stretched the lead to eight points, 29-21, after a three-pointer from Taylor Johnson. Baker grew the lead to 12 points, 38-26, only a few minutes later after a three by Javeion Gray. Â WWU continued to battle but would go into halftime trailing by 13 points, 49-36.

The Owls came out of halftime and scored five points but they could not slow down the Wildcats offense as they continued to heat up. Baker had stretched the lead to 18 points, 59-41, after a CJ Bolton three-pointer.

Baker grew the lead to as many as 22, 68-46, after a pair of free throws. The Owls continued to battle but could not get the lead under 18 points for the remainder of the contest as they would fall to Baker, 78-60. The Owls offense struggled in the second half as they were 9-of-25 shooting from the floor.
