Women’s Basketball Falls to Lincoln, 79-73

COLUMBIA, Mo. – The William Woods University Women's Basketball was defeated by NCAA Division II Lincoln University, 79-73, on Saturday afternoon at the Columbia Cougar vs. Coaches Classic.
 
The Owls were lead in scoring by Peyton Greenlee who scored 15 points, on 4-of-9 shooting, in the contest. Kaycee Gerald followed with 13 points. Jasmine Brown scored 12 points and collected 10 rebounds for a double-double in the contest.
 
WWU returns to action on Monday November 7th when they travel to Point Lookout, Missouri to face College of Ozarks. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
 
Game Flow
The Owls came out scoring in the first quarter of the contest as they scored seven of the first nine points in the contest taking a 7-2 lead. The Blue Tigers came back tying the game at 7-7 after a Tempary Gunter three-pointer.
 
WWU would pull away late in the first quarter as they held Lincoln without a point for the final five minutes of the first quarter during the stretch, the Owls scored 11 points, capped by an April Gebke three-pointer taking a 20-9 lead after the first quarter.
 
The Owls grew the lead to as many as 17 points, 26-9, in the second quarter on a Bailey Rollins. The Blue Tigers were held scoreless in the second quarter for the first three minutes, eight minutes including the first quarter, without a point. Erica Gibbons scored the tenth point for Lincoln on a free throw.
 
After the Blue Tigers scored they continued to mount a comeback and a three-pointer by Hunter Yoakum cut the Owls lead to six, 30-24. WWU got the lead back to double figures by Lincoln continued to battle and trimmed the lead down to four, 36-32, to go into halftime.
 
The Owls to start the second half as they went the first three minutes of the half scoreless and during the stretch the Blue Tiger came back and took the lead at 42-36. Lincoln continued to lead and the lead grew to seven, 47-40, after a Hunter Yoakum three-pointer.
 
The Owls continued to battle and trim the Blue Tigers to one, 56-55, after a pair of free throws by Greenlee. The Owls took the lead at 57-56, after Greenlee hit another pair of free throws.
 
Heading into the fourth quarter, Lincoln and WWU traded leads back and forth and the Owls built the lead back to four points, 67-63, after a Gerald jumper. The lead did not last long for the Owls as the Blue Tigers came back and took a lead at 75-71. WWU could not come back as they Blue Tigers took the game, 79-73.
