MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The William Woods University Baseball team swept NCAA Division II Christian Brothers University in a doubleheader on Friday. Behind a complete game by
John Cavness, the Owls took game one, 6-1. The bats remained hot in game two as WWU won game two, 5-2.

Game One
Game FlowThe Owls offense clicked early and often in game one of the doubleheader and
John Cavness kept the Bucs offense off balance in the 6-1, win.

In the first inning, the Owls jumped on the Christian Brothers. With a runner on second base,
Alex St. Pierre singled to right center scoring one for the Owls. St. Pierre came around to score on a
Jordan Dey single through the left side.

The two runs in the first inning, was enough for Cavness as he held the Bucs to two hits through the first three innings of the contest. William Woods added a run in the top of the fourth inning, taking a 3-0 lead.

The Bucs started getting to Cavness in the bottom of the fourth inning. Andrew Miller hit a leadoff home run to start the fourth inning trimming the Owls lead down to 3-1. After the homerun, Cavenss settled down and shut down the Bucs offense as they only collected two more hits the rest of the game.

WWU added to their lead in the top of the fifth inning as they added three run on three hits. After four and a half innings, the Owls led 6-1.

Cavness pitched a complete game to earn his first win of the season.

Game Two
Game FlowLike the first game, the Owls jumped out to a fast start. In the top of the first inning, William Woods broke open the contest by putting up four runs on three hits and taking advantage of one error. With two runners on Dey doubled down the left field line scoring one.
Matt Priest followed with a single scoring the second run of the game.
Nolan Aherin capped off the inning by driving in two runs on a double to left center.
Phillips kept the Bucs bats quiet as he did not allow a hit until the bottom of the third inning. However, the Bucs scored their first run of the game in the bottom of the second inning, as Christian Brothers took advantage of a hit by pitch, pass ball and a groundout to get a runner on third base. The runner came around to score on a Phillips wild pitch.

William Woods grew its lead to 5-0 in the top of the third inning. With a runner on third base, Jenson Smith doubled to center scoring Dey. That would be all the Owls would get in the inning.

Christian Brothers scored its second and final run of Phillips in the bottom of the fourth inning. With a runner on second, Joe Mattson doubled down the left field line scoring one and trimming WWU lead down to three, 5-2.

Caleb Bounds relieved Phillips in the bottom of the sixth inning and like Phillips, Bounds kept the bats quiet as he only allowed two hits in his two innings of work. The Owls took game two, 5-2, for the swept and Philips collected his second win of the season, while Bounds picked up his first save.
