FULTON, Mo. – The William Woods University Women's Basketball team led 54-36, entering the fourth quarter on Saturday afternoon at Anderson Arena on the campus of William Woods University but Park University made a fourth quarter push as they outscored WWU 24-13, in the quarter. However, William Woods hung on for a 67-60 victory over Park.
Game FlowIn a first quarter the Pirates and Owls were in a back and forth contest as the game saw six lead changes and four ties in the first quarter of action. A jumper by Kenya Lindo put the Pirates down one, 13-12, at the end of the first quarter.
William Woods picked up the defense in the second quarter as they held Park without a field goal until 50 seconds left in the quarter. During that stretch, William Woods went on a 17-0 run extending their lead to 18 points, 30-12. Park closed out the half by scoring the last five points and WWU led 30-17 at halftime.
The Owls slowly added to their lead in the third quarter. After a pair of free throws by
April Gebke, WWU led by 17 points, 40-23. Park trimmed the lead down to 14 before WWU build the lead back up to 17 points, 49-32. With a minute left in the third quarter, Park had the WWU lead down to 14 point, but the Owls scored the final four points of the third quarter taking a 54-36, lead into the fourth quarter.
Park slowly starting making a comeback in the fourth quarter as they held the Owls scoreless over the first six minutes of the quarter. During that stretch, the Pirates scored 13 points trimming the lead down to five points, 54-49. Two minutes later the Owls extended their lead back to double-figures after a
Kelsey Scherder three pointer. With an 11 point lead, 63-52, the Pirates cut the lead down to four points, 64-60, after a Sydney Heard three pointer. Those would be the last points the Pirates scored as Owls hit 3-of-4 free throws to win the game with a 67-60, victory over Park.
