Women’s Basketball Falls to Williams Baptist, 64-60

WALNUT RIDGE, Ark. – A cold shooting second quarter played costly in the William Woods University women's basketball team loss to Williams Baptist College (17-9, 12-9 AMC) on Thursday night. The Owls were defeated by the Eagles, 64-60, in overtime.
 
William Woods (19-8, 14-7 AMC) led 16-14 after the first quarter, however, the Owls went 0-for-16 from the floor in the second quarter and WWU were outscored 14-1. April Gebke scored 15 points leading William Woods.
 
Game Flow
William Woods were locked in a title battle during the first quarter. The Owls found themselves own, 10-11, but the Owls ended the first quarter on an 8-3 run. After the first quarter, WWU led 16-14. However, the second quarter was not kind for the Owls as they only scored one point in the quarter. William Woods was 0-for-16 from the field in the second quarter. The Owls lone point came when Nia Lateju hit one-of-two free throws with25 seconds left in the half. The Owls went into halftime down, 28-17.
 
The Eagles came out in the third quarter and grew their led to 17 points, 38-21, after an Andrea Moffitt three-pointer. Trailing by 17 points, the Owls went on a 9-0 run trimming Williams Baptists lead down to 40-32. Porche Hall hit a two pointer putting the Eagles ahead by 10 points entering the fourth quarter.
 
William Woods would not go away quietly as they continued to battle and trimmed the Eagles lead down to three points, 46-43, after a Gebke three pointer. Williams Baptist extended the lead back to five points, 52-47, after a Jasmine Ford three pointer with 2:18 left in the game. The Owls scored the last five points of the contest, and Kelsey Scherder hit a three pointer with 38 seconds left tying the game at 52-52.
 
WWU came out and scored the first three points in the contest but could not hang onto their lead and the Eagles took a two point lead, 57-55, after a Moffitt three pointer. After taking the lead, Williams Baptist held onto the lead the rest of the game and defeated William Woods, 64-60, in overtime.
