Cold Shooting Hurts Owls in Loss to No. 12 Freed-Hardeman

HENDERSON, Tenn. – A cold shooting day hurt the William Woods University Women's Basketball team as they were defeated 73-50 by No. 12 Freed-Hardeman University on Saturday in the NAIA Game of the Week presented by Stretch Internet. The Owls shot 31 percent from the floor in the loss.
 
Game Flow
The Owls offense got off to a slow start in the contest as Freed-Hardeman scored eight of the first ten points of the contest. William Woods scored two points during the first four minutes of action, and the points came when Julia Wells hit a pair of free throws. WWU continued to battle but the Lady Lions hit a pair of free throws with 1:23 left in the first quarter taking a 12 point lead, 22-10. The Owls trimmed the lead down to 11 points, 22-12, after the first quarter.
 
William Woods got the lead under ten points starting the second quarter when Kailey Morris hit a one of the Owls two three pointers of the game. However, the lead did not stay under ten points for long as Freed-Hardeman grew the lead to 14 points, 31-17, after a Kim Mallory jumper.
 
The Owls could not get the lead under ten points the rest of the first half and went into halftime down 13 points, 37-24.
 
Freed-Hardeman continued to extend their lead in the second half and a jumper by Mallory put the Lady Lions ahead by 17 points. The Owls and Lady Tigers traded baskets for the remainder of the quarter and after three quarters of play, William Woods trailed by 18, 57-39.
 
The Owls had no answer for the powerful Lady Lions in the contest. William Woods was outscored 16-11 in the fourth quarter and were defeated 73-50. The Owls shot 31 percent from the floor while the Lady Lions shot 46 percent for the game.
