HANNIBAL, Mo. – William Woods University women's basketball team got back into the win column on Thursday night with a 79-62 victory over Hannibal-LaGrange University.

Kennedy Volkart led a trio of Owls in double figures with 19 points in the game. Volkart was 9-of-12 shooting from the floor in the contest.
Nia Lateju followed with 17 points and
Kailey Morris added 12 points to round out the double figure scorers.

Game FlowThe Owls scored the first eight points of the game keyed by a pair of three pointers by Lateju and
Bailey Rollins. William Woods continued hold an eight point lead until 5:46 left in the first quarter when the Trojans trimmed the lead down to two point, 12-10. However, after the game was within two points, William Woods held Hannibal-LaGrange to three points the rest of the quarter and extended their lead to 12 points, 25-13, after the first quarter.
The Owls grew the lead to 15 points, 30-15, in the second quarter after a Volkart two point field goal. However, the Trojans would not go away quietly as they cut the Owls lead down to eight points, 35-37, after a two point jumper by Sarah Cline. The Owls took an eight point lead, 38-30, into halftime.
Hannibal-LaGrange continued to battle back in the third quarter as they opened up the half on a 6-1 run and cut the lead down to three points, 39-36. With the lead at three points, the Owls and Trojans started trading baskets and but the Owls grew the lead back to 10 points, 61-51, at the end of the third quarter.
William Woods picked up the defense in the fourth quarter as they held Hannibal-LaGrange to five points for the first six minutes of the fourth quarter. During that stretch, the Owls grew their lead back to 15 points, 70-55. After growing the lead back to 15 points, the Owls extended their lead to as many as 18 points in the fourth quarter. And won by a score of 79-62.
