Owls Baseball Splits With Bethel for Second Straight Day

MCKENZIE, Tenn. – For the second straight day, William Woods University Baseball team and Bethel University Wildcats split a doubleheader. Bethel took game one, 8-2, while William Woods rebounded taking game two, 5-4, in eight innings.
 
With the split, William Woods goes to 2-2 on the season.
 
Game One
Game Flow

Bethel jumped out to an early lead over William Woods as they put one up in the bottom of the first on a Charriez Gadier double. The Owls responded in the top of the second inning. With two outs in the inning, Anthony Davison doubled and Grant Garrett followed with a single scoring Davison and tying the game at 1-1.

The game remained 1-1 until the bottom of the third inning when Bethel scored seven runs on three hits. William Woods added one run in the top of the fourth on a Neal Aherin single that scored Jordan Dey. William Woods collected only two hits the remainder of the contest and fell, 8-2.

Game Two
Game Flow

Jacob Guilianelli kept the Wildcats of Bethel University quiet to start game two, as he only allowed one hit in his 3.2 innings of work. The Owls broke the scoreless tie in the top of the fourth inning. With a runner on second base, Patrick Dillion singled to center scoring one and putting the Owls ahead 1-0.
 
Bethel answered back in the bottom of the fifth inning as they scored three runs, taking a 3-1 lead over William Woods. The game remained 3-1 entering the top of the seventh inning, when the Owl bats came to life. Drew May and Anthony Davison collected RBI's in the top of the seventh, tying the game at 3-3.

Bethel put two runners on in the bottom of the seventh but could not get them across and the game went to the eighth tied at 3-3. In the top of the eighth, the Owls bats stayed hot as they broke the tie by scoring two in the inning. Nolan Aherin scored on a Dillion bunt putting William Woods ahead 4-3. Zach Smith came around to score on a Larry Price single. The Wildcats were able to push one across in the bottom of the inning, but that was all they could get as they left two runners stranded on base.

Next Games
The Owls return to action next Saturday when they travel to Memphis, Tenn. To face Christian Brothers University in a three game set. William Woods and Christian Brothers will play a doubleheader on Saturday and a single game on Sunday.
