FULTON, Mo. – The William Woods University softball team snapped an eight game losing streak with a doubleheader split with Baker University on Tuesday afternoon. The Wildcats took game one, 9-1, in six innings, and the Owls responded by winning game two, 9-1, in five innings.

The Owls return to action on Friday, March 18th when they travel to Batesville, Ark., to face Lyon College in an American Midwest Conference (AMC) doubleheader. First pitch is set for 2 p.m.

Game One
Game FlowThe Owls and Wildcats locked up early in a pitchers dual as the neither could get its offense on track in the first three innings of the contest. In the first three innings of action both teams combined for three hits.

The Wildcats got to the Owls starter,
Allison Waskow, in the top of the fourth inning. Baker scored three runs on three hits in the top of the fourth inning taking a 3-0 lead. WWU trimmed the lead down to two, 3-1, in the bottom of the fourth. With a runner on third base,
Amanda Bouchey singled scoring
Sydnae Hatton.

The Owls did not score the rest of the contest, and the Wildcats scored six unanswered runs and mercy ruled the Owls in six innings in game one. Baker scored three runs each in the fifth and six innings to win 9-1.

Game FlowThe William Woods offense clicked in the bottom of the first in game two. The Owls scored three runs on three hits and took advantage of one Wildcat error during the inning. After a Hatton triple, to lead off the inning, she scored on a
Hannah Campbell groundout.
Hillary Hentges and
Madison McCormick also collected RBI hits in the first inning.

Sierra Jacques kept the Wilcats bats quiet early in the contest, as she did not allow a hit until the fourth inning of game two. However, Baker put runners on because of walks and errors but could not get a run across.

The Owls added to its lead in the bottom of the second inning. With two outs, Campbell singled and
Ari Arnold followed with an RBI double extending the Owls lead to 4-0. The Owls kept the offense clicking as they broke the game open in the bottom of the third inning. The Owls scored 4 runs on four hits taking an 8-0 lead.
Emily Robinett, Hatton, and Arnold all collected RBIs in the inning. Arnold drove in two on an RBI double.

William Woods added one more in the bottom of the fourth inning as Jacques drew a bases loaded walk, extending the Owls lead to 9-0.

Baker finally got on the scoreboard in the top of the fifth inning. The Wildcats scored one run on three hits and left one runner on base and the Owls defeated the Wildcats, 9-1, in five innings.
