BATESVILLE, Ark. – After being suspended play because of weather on Friday, the William Woods University softball team and Lyon College met on at House Field on Sunday afternoon. The Owls and Scots split a doubleheader with the Owls winning game one, 6-2, and Lyon taking game two, 8-1.
The Owls return to action on Thursday, March 24th when they host Park University at Owls Field at Backer Sports Complex. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m.
Game One
Game FlowThe Lyons took an early lead in game one as they scored the first run of the game in the bottom of first inning. Stephanie Bagwell singled scoring one and putting the Scots ahead, 1-0. After the second inning, the game was suspended on Friday because of weather.
When the game resumed Sunday, the Owls tied the game at 1-1, in the top of the third. With runners on second and third,
Ari Arnold singled up the middle scoring one. With the game tied at 1-1, Lyon answered right back, as they scored one run on three hits in the bottom of the third inning.
After scoring the first run the Owls bats went quiet until the top of the sixth inning. William Woods bats acme alive in the sixth as Owls scored five runs on four hits and took advantage of one Lyon error.
Beth Begemann led off the inning by taking a 0-1 pitch over the center field fence for a home run tying the game at 2-2.
The Owls bats continued to stay hot as
Dacrie Depping socred on a misplayed grounder. With the bases loaded
Emily Murphy reached on a fielders' choice, which scored on and a second run after a wild throw. The Owls were not done as Campbell drove in another run with a single to center field. After the top of the sixth inning the Owls led 6-2.
After taking the lead, the
Sierra Jacques settled down and did not let the Scots get anything going offensively in the sixth or seventh inning and the Owls took game one, 6-2.

Game Two
Game FlowThe Owls scored the first run of the game in the top of the first inning of game two, as
Sydnae Hatton singled to lead off the game. She advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt. With two outs and Hatton on second,
Beth Begemann singled to right field scoring Hatton and putting the Owls ahead, 1-0.
Lyon answered right back in the bottom of the first winning with two runners on, Rayven Cannon doubled to right-center scoring two runs. After the first inning, Lyon led 2-0 over the Owls.
After collecting the two hits in the top of the first, William Woods bats went quiet as they only collected two more hits during the contest. In the top of the third inning, Campbell doubled down the right field line but was stranded at second base. The last hit for the Owls came in the top of the fifth inning when Alli Massy singled to shortstop
The Scots added to their lead in the bottom of the third inning as Cannon was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded scoring one. Savannah Fuller followed with a single to left scoring another. Lyon broke the game open in the bottom of the fourth inning as they took advantage of two WWU errors and after the fourth inning WWU trailed 8-1.
After collecting the hit in the fifth inning by Massey the Owls bats did not collect another hit for the remainder of the game and Lyon defeated the Owls, 8-1, in game two of the doubleheader.
