WALNUT RIDGE, Ark. – Jordan Dey hit three homeruns and drove in six runs as the William Woods University baseball team defeated Williams Baptist University, 14-4, in 7 innings on Friday afternoon in American Midwest Conference (AMC) action.

On the day, Dey was 3-for-4 with three home runs and six RBI on the contest.
Grant Garrett and
Tanner Wetrich went 3-of-4 in the contest.
John Cavness pitched his fourth complete game of the season as he held the Eagles to four runs on seven hits in the game, to earn his fifth win of the season.

The Owls and Eagles return to the field tomorrow, April 2nd when the two teams square off in a doubleheader starting at 12 p.m.

Game FlowWith two outs and a runner on base in the first inning, the Owls
Jordan Dey came to the plate. Dey took the first pitch for a ball and on the second pitch of the at bat, Dey took the pitch over the left field fence for a two run homerun putting the Owls ahead, 2-0.

The Eagles answered back as they got to Owls starter
John Cavness in the bottom of the first. Williams Baptist scored three runs on three hits taking a 3-2 lead over William Woods.

William Woods tied the game in the top of the second as
Matt Priest reached on a walk. After the next two Owls were retired,
Tanner Wetrich doubled to left-center scoring Priest and tying the game at 3-3.

In the top of the third inning of play, the Owls broke the tie taking a 4-3 lead over the Eagles.
Nolan Aherin doubled to right field and
Ryan Phillips and Dey followed with a walk to load the bases. With no outs,
Patrick Dillion hit into a double play scoring Aherin putting the Owls ahead.

WBC answered back in the third inning as Pedro Lopez doubled to right center leading off the inning. After a groundout moved Lopez to third base, Braxton Rhodes singled home Lopez scored tying the game at 4-4.

After the third inning, Cavness settled down for the Owls and only allowed one hit for the remainder of the game. While Cavness was shutting down Williams Baptist, the Owls offense broke out scoring 10 unanswered runs.

WWU took the lead in the top of the fourth inning, after a
Grant Garrett single to right field,
Larry Price ran for the Owls. With Price on second base, he stole third base and scored on an
Alex St. Pierre single. The Owls took a 5-4 lead and held the lead the rest of the contest.

In the top of the fifth, Phillips reached on an error and Dey followed with his second homerun of the game as he took the second pitch of the at-bat over the left field wall. The homerun put the Owls ahead 7-4. The Owls added one more run in the inning and led 8-4 heading to the bottom of the fifth inning.

After Cavness shut down the Eagles in the fifth inning, the Owls Dey came back up to plate in the top of the sixth inning. In the sixth Dey took the 2-1 pitch over the centerfield fence for his third homerun of the game.

The Owls offense continued to explode as they scored five runs on six hits extending its lead to 14-4 in the top of the seventh inning. In the seventh the Owls had key hits from
Grant Garrett and
Ryan Phillips collected RBIs in the inning.

Cavness came out in the bottom of the seventh inning and struck out two of the three Eagles as the Owls mercy ruled Williams Baptist, 14-4.
