WALNUT RIDGE, Ark. - The William Woods University baseball team split its American Midwest Conference doubleheader with Williams Baptist College on Saturday afternoon. The Owls took game one, 15-10, before falling in game two, 10-6.
The Owls return to action on Tuesday, April 5th when they travel to Central Methodist University for a non-conference doubleheader. First-pitch is set for 4:00 p.m.
Game One
Game FlowThe Owls found themselves down 1-0 heading to the top of the second inning. William Woods bats came to life in the second, as
Jordan Dey led off with a single to right center. After a sacrifice bunt advanced Dey to second,
Drew May struck out swinging but reached first on a drop third strike, and on the play Dey advanced to third on the throw.
Konrad Kemper scored Dey on a single tying the game at 1-1.
Larry Price followed with a single and
Tanner Wetrich drew a walk to load the bases. With the bases loaded,
Alex St. Pierre drew a walk, which scored one. The inning came to an end with the bases loaded for the Owls but the Owls led, 2-1.

William Woods added to its lead in the top of the third. After a leadoff walk to
Ryan Phillips, the Eagles intentionally walked Dey to put two runners on.
Patrick Dillion followed with a bunt single loading the bases. May hit a sacrifice fly scoring Phillips putting the Owls ahead, 3-1. Dey came around to score on a Kemper double putting the Owls ahead, 4-1.

Williams Baptist added two runs in the bottom of the third inning as Braxton Rhodes drove home two on a single. The Eagles tied the game at 4-4 after a Silas Huskey double in the bottom of the fourth inning scored Brennan Pugh.
The Owls grew its lead to 7-4 in the top of the fifth inning. With two runners on base,
Tanner Wetrich came to the plate. After taking two straight balls, Wetrich hit a three run home run to left field. Wetrich's homerun was the only hit for the Owls in the inning but it grew the lead to 7-4.

William Woods' bats continued to stay hot as they added six more runs in the top of the sixth inning as they took advantage of two Eagles errors has they only collected two hits in the inning. After the top of the sixth inning the Owls led 13-4.

After scoring six runs in the top of the sixth inning, the Owls allowed six runs to the Eagles as they scored trimming the Owls lead back to three, 13-10.

WWU scored two runs in the top of the seventh inning. William Woods' May and Kemper hit back-to-back home runs growing its lead to five, 15-10. The Owls did not let the Eagles get anything going in the bottom of the seventh inning and took game one, 15-10.

Game Two
Game FlowAfter a scoreless first inning of action, the Owls scored the first runs of game two. In the second inning, and runners on the corners,
Matt Priest reached on an error and on the play Dey came into score. The Olws added another run in the inning and the Olws led, 2-0.

The game remained 2-0, until the bottom of the fourth inning. With one out, Ryan Shelton took a 1-1 pitch over the left field wall for the first run of the game for the Eagles. After a single, Pedro Lopez hit a two run home run putting Williams Baptist ahead 3-2.

WWU answered in the top of the fifth, with one on and two outs,
Ryan Phillips helped himself out with a homerun over to left field putting the Owls back on top 4-3.

Williams Baptist came back scoring four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning taking the lead back over the Owls. The Eagles answered by collecting five hits in the inning, with the key coming from Lopez has he hit a bases clearing three run triple. After five innings the Eagles led, 7-4. WBC added to its lead in the sixth inning as Pugh scored on a Tanner Murray double.

The Eagles lead grew to 10-4 in the eighth inning as Shae Mnichowski and Nick Scott picked up RBI hits in the frame.

The Owls did not go away without a fight. With the bases loaded and no outs, Dey grounded into a double play. With two outs, Dillion singled scoring one and May followed with a single scoring another. However, that would be all the Owls would get as it was not enough to mount a comeback and the Owls dropped game two, 10-6.
