COLUMBIA, Mo. – After dropping the first game of the doubleheader, the William Woods University bounced back in game two, to split the doubleheader with Columbia College on Tuesday afternoon. The Owls dropped game one, 5-0, before coming back winning game two, 3-2.

The Owls return to action on Friday, April 15th when they take on Harris-Stowe State University at Owl Field. First-pitch is set for 2 p.m.

Game One
Game FlowColumbia College's pitcher Paxton Welch kept the Owls off balance the entire contest as she pitched a perfect game against the Owls. This was her first perfect game.

Allison Waskow came out and allowed back to back base hits for the Cougars in the bottom of the first but the Owls did not allow a run to score and kept the game scoreless after one inning. Columbia broke the scoreless tie in the bottom of the third inning. Waskow retired the first two hitters before the Cougars offense came to life. Carly Spalding singled to center field and stole second base. Spalding came into score on a Molly Carter single putting Columbia ahead, 1-0.

Columbia extended its lead to 5-0 in the fifth inning. Spalding drove in two on a single extending the lead to 3-0. Spalding came into score on a bases loaded walk growing the lead to 4-0. The Cougars got its last run of the game on a sacrifice fly.

It looked as if the Cougars would grow the lead into the 6-0 in the sixth inning with one out and a runner on second, Kaylee Brueggeman doubled to center put
Hannah Campbell threw out Julianna Waldner at home for the second out of the inning and keeping the game at 5-0.

The Owls went down in order in the top of the seventh inning and were defeated, 5-0, by Columbia in game one of the doubleheader.

Game Two
Game FlowThe Owls fell behind early in game two, as the Cougars scored the first run of the contest without collecting a hit. Columbia put one run on the board as they took advantage of WWU's error.

William Woods answered back in the top of the second inning
Hillary Hentges led off the inning with a solo home run. Hentges had a 3-1 count and took the next pitch over the center field fence tying the game. After the first out,
Amanda Bouchey took the 1-2 pitch for a home run to right field fence putting the Owls ahead, 2-1.

Columbia looked to answer back in the second as they drew back-to-back walks.
Sierra Jacques settled down after the two walks and retired the next two hitters ending the threat.

WWU extended the lead to 3-1 lead in the third inning.
Hannah Campbell singled to right and went to second on a sacrifice bunt. With two outs and Campbell on second, Hentges followed with a singled scoring Campbell putting the Owls ahead 3-1. The Howls loaded the bases with two outs, but did not get anyone else across the plate.

The Cougars answered back in the fourth inning. With two outs and a runner on first, Rachel Sullivan singled to center. Carly Spalding singled to left scoring one and cutting the Owls lead down to one, 3-2. Jacques ended the inning by striking out Molly Carter to end the inning.

Jacques continued to keep the Cougars off balance as she struck out the leadoff hitter. With one out, Dakota Newton doubled to right and Kaylee Brueggeman singled putting two runners on. With runners on second and third and one out, Jacques got the next two hitters to ground out ending the inning.

The Owls continued to hold a 3-2 lead as they went to the bottom of the seventh inning. Jacques retired the first hitter on a round out. Allyson Metz followed with a single putting the tying run on base. However, Jacques got Olivia Denslow to line out and the Owls turned a double-play ending the game. William Woods defeated Columbia, 3-2.
