HANNIBAL, Mo. – The William Woods University Baseball team had its five game winning streak snapped on Friday afternoon when they were defeated by Hannibal-LaGrange University. The Trojans defeated the Owls, 7-5.

The Owls return to action tomorrow, Saturday, April 16
th when they play Hannibal-LaGrange in a doubleheader. First-pitch is set for 1 p.m.

Game Flow
After a scoreless inning and a half, the Trojans broke the scoreless tie in the second. Hannibal-LaGrange took advantage of an Owls error and scored the first two runs of the contest. Antonio Cesin scored on a Cody Rector fielder's choice. Later in the inning, Pedro Veloz scored on Jordan Dehart's fielder's choice. After the second inning, the Trojans led 2-0.

William Woods cut the lead in half in the top of the third inning.
Tanner Wetrich reached on a Trojan error. He advanced to second on a
Nolan Aherin single. With two runners on and no outs,
Alex St. Pierre lead down a sacrifice bunt moving the runners up.
Ryan Phillips followed with a sacrifice fly scoring one. The inning game to an end when
Jordan Dey grounded out.

Owls starter
John Cavness settled down after allowing the two runs as he retired Hannibal-LaGrange in order in the third, and fourth inning. The Owls came back tying the game in the fifth inning.
Larry Price reached on a bunt hit. After back-to-back sacrifice bunts, Price was at third base, and scored when he stole home. After the top of the inning the Owls and Trojans were tied at 2-2.

The Trojans took the lead at 3-2 in the bottom of the fifth inning when Jordan Dehart scored on a wild throw by
Alex St. Pierre.

William Woods continued to battle and again tied the game at 3-3 in the seventh inning. With two outs and a runner on second base,
Alex St. Pierre singled up the middle scoring
Tanner Wetrich tying the game.

Again after the Owls tied the game, Hannibal-LaGrange battled back and retook the lead in the bottom of the seventh inning. The Trojans collected five hits in the inning, while scoring four runs growing its lead to 7-3 over the Owls.

WWU did not go away easily as they scored two more runs in the top of the eighth inning. Patrick Dillion and
Jansen Smith led off the inning with back-to-back hits. The Owls scored one run on a
Grant Garrett ground out and a second run on a sacrifice fly by
Konrad Kemper. After seven and a half innings of play the Owls trailed 7-5.

The Owls needed to score two runs in the top of ninth to extend the game after an out,
Jordan Dey reached by being hit by a pitch. However, the Owls next two players were retired and the Owls dropped the contest, 7-5.
