Owls Drop Two on Road to Central Baptist

CONWAY, Ark. – The William Woods University Baseball team dropped its road doubleheader to Central Baptist College on Saturday afternoon. The Owls lost a heartbreaker, 7-6, in game one and were defeated 4-1, in game two.
 
The Owls return to action on Tuesday, April 26th when they travel to Canton, Mo. to face Culver-Stockton College. First pitch is set for 4 p.m.
 
Game One
Game Flow

The Owls raced out to a fast 3-0 lead in the first inning. With a runner on second, Ryan Phillips singled to center scoring one. Later in the inning, Grant Garrett singled home two more extending the Owls lead to 3-0.
 
WWU grew its lead to 5-0 in the second inning. With the bases loaded, Jordan Dey singled to right field scoring two and putting the Owls lead to 5-0.
 
Central Baptist offense continued to slowly come to life as they scored three runs on five hits in the second inning. After allowing Central Baptist to score three runs the Owls, answered scored one on a Neal Aherin ground out.
 
The Owls starter Jacob Guilianelli settled down after the second inning as he only allowed one hit over the third, fourth and fifth inning. However, Central Baptist used a strong sixth inning as they took its first lead of the game in the seventh inning. The Mustangs scored four runs on three hits taking a 7-6 lead over the Owls.
 
William Woods tried to mount a comeback in the top of the seventh inning. With a runner on and one out, Tanner Wetrich flew out for the second out of the inning Neal Aherin followed with a single and Larry Price, who was running for Konrad Kemper, tried to score on the play but was throwing out at home plate and the Owls were defeated, 7-6.

Game Flow

Central Baptist jumped on the Owls starter, Ryan Phillips, in the first. After back to back singles led off the game, the Mustangs had runners on first and second base. After a fly out to right field, Austin Kuchinski reached on a fielder's choice scoring one putting the Mustangs ahead, 1-0.
 
William Woods bounced right back tying the game at 1-1 in the second inning. With two outs and two runners on base, Tanner Wetrich reached on an error loading the bases for the Owls. Neal Aherin followed with a bases loaded walk scoring one.
 
The Mustangs retook the lead in the bottom of the third inning as they score three runs on two hits and took advantage of two Owls errors. After the third inning the Owls trailed, 4-1.
 
The game remained 4-1 until the Owls tried to mount a comeback in the top of the ninth inning. Tanner Wetrich reached on an error putting a runner on for the Owls. After the second out of the inning, Alex St. Pierre reached on a catcher's interference. Ryan Phillips followed with a walk loading the bases for the Owls. However, Jordan Dey struck out ending the game and the Owls dropped game two, 4-1.
