HANNIBAL, Mo. – The William Woods University Softball team split its American Midwest Conference (AMC) doubleheader at Hannibal-LaGrange University. The Owls took game one, 9-3, before falling in game two, 8-7.

The Owls return to action on Sunday, April 10th when they host Saint Louis College of Pharmacy. Come join the Owls on "Think Pink" game at Backer Field. First-pitch for tomorrow is set for 1 p.m.

Game One
Game FlowAfter a scoreless first two innings of the contest, the Olws offense woke up in the top of the third. With two outs in the inning,
Hannah Campbell doubled to center and
Brailee Schulte singled to center. Campbell came into score on a bobble by Gabby Akright.
Beth Begemann and Madsion McCormick drew back-to-back walks to load the bases.
Alli Massey singled home two runs putting the Owls ahead, 3-0.

Allison Waskow continued to keep the Trojans off balance. Akright drew a walk but Waskow retired the next two hitters ending the inning.

WWU grew the lead to 4-0 in the fourth inning, as
Shelby LeCuru reached on a walk and advanced to second and third on back-to-back sacrifice bunts. Lecure scored on a wild pitch putting the Owls ahead, 4-0.

Hannibal-LaGrange offense got to Waskow in the bottom of the fourth inning. The Trojans scored two runs in the bottom of the inning on two hits and trimming the Owls lead down to 4-2.

William Woods added its fifth run of the contest, in the top of the sixth inning. Schulte singled home
Olivia Imhoff putting the Owls ahead, 5-2. The Owls extended its lead in the top of the seventh when they scored four runs in the inning on six hits. After the top of the seventh the Owls led 9-2.

The Trojans scored one in the bottom of the seventh when Shelby Miller grounded out scoring one. The Trojans did not score again and the Owls took game one, 9-3.

Game Two
Game FlowWilliam Woods jumped out to a quick lead in the contest as they scored in the first inning.
Sydnae Hatton reached on a bunt single and
Hannah Campbell followed with a bunt single putting two one.
Hillary Hentges drove in the first run of the game on a single.

The Owls grew the lead to 2-0 in the top of the second.
Amanda Bouchey doubled to center field. She advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt. Bouchey came to score on a McKenzie Marshall's misplayed grounder.

The Trojans took the lead in the bottom of the second inning as the Trojans got to the Owls starter in the inning. With two runners on, Jenna Duckworth singled through the hole at second scoring one. Haley Zeier doubled to right center, scoring one tying the game at 2-2. The Trojans offense continued to added to its lead and after the second inning led 5-2.

The game remained 5-2, until the top of the fourth when the Owls scored its third run of the game.
Ari Arnold doubled to right enter and moved to third on a sacrifice bunt. Arnold came into score when Hatton reached on an error.

Hannibal-LaGrange added another run in the fourth as Danielle Stackhouse scored on a Hatton error and the Owls found themselves down 6-3.

WWU continued to battle back and score two runs in the fifth inning. With two runners on, Massey followed with a sacrifice bunt moving the runners to second and third. The two came into score on a Bouchey double. After the inning came to an end the Owls trailed 6-5.

The Trojans grew its lead back out to three, 8-5, as they scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth. Jennifer Harness singled home two runs on a single up the middle.

William Woods again cut the lead down to one, 8-7, in the top of the sixth inning.
Hannah Campbell came into score on a wild pitch for one run of the Owls. The Owls added one more run on a Imhoff single that scored Schulte.

After a scoring bottom of the sixth inning, the Owls came back up to the plate trailing by one. Arnold singled to short and LeCuru putting two on base. Both advanced on a passed ball. With two on and one out, Arnold was picked off third base. LeCuru then stole third base.
Hannah Campbell followed by lining out and the Owls were defeated 8-7.
