MARSHALL, Mo. – The William Woods University Women's Soccer team suffered its first loss of the season on Saturday evening as Missouri Valley College defeated the Owls, 2-0, in non-conference action.
The Owls were outshot in the contest 17-0 by the Vikings.
William Woods returns to action on September 3rd, when they travel to Bethany, Oklahoma to face Southwestern Christian University. Kick-off is set for 11 a.m.
Game Flow
The Vikings got on the offensive early and often in the contest as they fired a shot wide of goal eight minutes into the game and the shot went wide. They continued to fire shots and with 29:51 left in the half, Julia Amador missed another shot wide.
Missouri Valley broke the scoreless tie late in the first half. With just over five minutes' left in the half, Brianna George fired a shot that went off the post. She redeemed herself just over a minute later when she beat Sturgess after taking a pass from Sam Starostki for the first goal of the game.
Missouri Valley defense continued to play well as the Owls were held without a shot in the second half. The Vikings grew its lead to 2-0 in contest as Silvia Curtiada scored on an Andrea Garcia pass extending its lead to 2-0.
The Owls dropped its first game of the season. The Owls are now 0-1-1 on the season.
