COLUMBIA, Mo. – The William Woods University Women's Soccer team was defeated by No. 4 Benedictine (Kan.), 4-0, on Saturday afternoon at Rock Bridge High School.

The Owls had opportunities on the offensive end but solid defense by Benedictine help the Owls shot numbers limited on the afternoon.

William Woods returns to action on Tuesday, September 13th when they open American Midwest Conference action at Firley Field against Missouri Baptist University. Kick-off is set for 5 p.m.

Game Flow
The Owls offense came out ready to play and came out moving the ball on the Ravens as they had opportunities early in the contest. However, the Owls sent crosses across the box, but Benedictine cleared the ball out prior to allowing the Owls a shot.

Benedictine offense, which was averaging 11 shots on goal per game, came out with shots after missing its first two shots wide, the Ravens slowly started to get shots on
Rebecca Sturgess, but Sturgess recorded two of her nine saves.

The Ravens struck first with just over 25 minutes to go in the first half. Olivia Meyers sent a cross into the box that Hailey McEntee headed past Sturgess for the first goal of the game. A few minutes the Ravens scored its second goal of the game when Rosie McShane beat Sturgess.

Late in the first half, the Owls recorded its lone shot of the contest when
Leah Bonugli took a shot from the corner of the box but Ellen Loughman recorded the save. The Owls went into halftime trailing 2-0.

Benedictine extended its lead early in the second half when Hannah Trandahl took a pass from Olivia Meyers for a goal. The final goal of the game when Myers took a pass from McShane to put Benedictine ahead 4-0.

Like the first half, the Owls moved the ball down the field against the No. 4 Ravens, but William Woods could not get a shot off as the Ravens defense put a stop to the Owls as they got to the box and cleared the Owls crosses out of the way.

The Owls would not get a goal in and they would fall to Benedictine, 4-0.
