Cougars Down Owls, 4-0, In AMC Game of the Week

COLUMBIA, Mo. – The William Woods University women's soccer team was defeated by Columbia College, 4-0, in the American Midwest Conference Women's Soccer Game of the Week, on Saturday afternoon.
 
The Cougars outshot the Owls, 30-5 in the contest. WWU had two shots on goal but could not score.
 
The Owls return to action on Wednesday, September 21st when they travel to Lindenwood-Belleville University. Kick-off is set for 7:15 p.m.
 
Game Flow
Columbia College wasted little time getting into the score column as they scored on their first shot of the contest. Just over a minute into the game, Katelyn Palmer took a corner kick and found Kelsey Mirts, who scored on the first shot for the Cougars.
 
Less than ten minutes later, the Cougars had its second goal of the game. Tiffany Weaver added a goal extending the lead to 2-0.
 
Elyssa Cappaert took the first shot of the game for the Owls but her shot went wide of the goal. Cappaert's shot would be the only shot for the Owls in the first half.
 
Columbia added to its lead late in the first half as Jordan Poire took a pass from Laurie Frew and beat Rebecca Sturgess for a goal. Columbia led 3-0 going into halftime.
 
The Owls added its second shot of the contest early in the second half, when Halle Schroeder took a shot but her shot went wide. Columbia tried to extend its lead on a Laurie Frew shot but Sturgess made the save.
 
Columbia added its fourth goal of the contest with just over 30 minutes' left in the contest when Frew took a pass from Katelyn Palmer and beat Sturgess.
 
The Owls continued to attack and Renee Meyer fired a shot but her shot was blocked. WWU came back with another shot, this time by Shelby Scanlan, which was on goal, but Flavia Rosado recorded the save. The Owls continued to attack as Alex Langford took a shot on goal but Rosado recorded the save. The Owls fell to Columbia, 4-0, in the contest.
