Men’s Soccer Shutouts Culver-Stockton, 2-0

CANTON, Mo. – The William Woods University Men's Soccer team recorded its second shutout of the season as they defeated Culver-Stockton College, 2-0, on Saturday afternoon.
 
The win for the Owls is its fourth win of the season. William Woods got its first goal of the game 13 minutes into the contest as Rodrigo Alves. Anthony Moscatello scored the second goal for the Owls in the contest. WWU outshot the Wildcats, 15-12, in the contest.
 
William Woods returns to action on Monday, September 5th when they travel to Kansas City, Missouri to face Avila University. Kick-off is set for 1 p.m.
 
Game Flow
Culver-Stockton offense came out controlling the game as Alejandro Mentasti fired a shot high of the goal. Five minutes later Santiago Dirrocco missed a shot wide.
 
After those shot attempts for the Wildcats, WWU got its first chance to score and they took advantage. Jesse Jordan found Rodrigo Alves, who beat Robert Jones putting the Owls ahead, 1-0, 13 minutes into the contest.
 
William woods continued to attack on the offensive end as Jesse Bowers missed a shot wide, Alves took a shot on goal that was saved and another that went wide, Lendell Louis-Jacques fired shot wide. Alves had his third shot on goal in the half saved and with 15 minutes' left in the first half the Owls led, 1-0.
 
Culver-Stockton tried to answer back and tie the game up at 1-1 with 10 minutes to go into halftime but Patrick Stutts shot was saved by Conor Cable. The Wildcats had two more shots go wide in the game and the game went into half with the Owls ahead 1-0.
 
Both teams had opportunities early in the second half but the shots went wide. The Owls continued to keep the pressure on the Wildcats as Alves took his fourth shot on goal in the game but Jones recorded the save. Alves continued to get looks at the goal as with 30 minutes left in the second half, Alves fired his fifth shot on goal of the game and again Jones made the save.
 
The Owls extended its lead to 2-0 late in the second half, as Juan Roman found Anthony Moscatello found the back of the net for his first goal of the season.
 
After the second goal for the Owls, Culver-Stockton only attempted one more shot for the remainder of the game and the shot went high. William Woods came away with a 2-0 victory over Culver-Stockton.
