Men’s Soccer Shutouts Avila, 1-0

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The William Woods University Men's Soccer team improved to 5-0 on the season with a 1-0 victory over Avila University on Monday afternoon. The Owls improve are off to its best start of a season since 2014 when they started the season 5-0-1.
 
Anthony Moscatello scored the game-winning-goal for the Owls with 12:00 minutes' left in the contest. The Owls outshot the Eagles, 10-1 in the contest. WWU had nine shots attempted on goal. This is the third shutout of the season for the Owls on the season.
 
William Woods returns to action on Wednesday, September 7th when they host Central Methodist University at Firley Field at 5 p.m.
 
Game Flow
The Owls and Eagles were come out playing a physical contest as there were six fouls called in the first 15 minutes' of the contest. During the stretch, the Owls had the only shot when Patrick Mota fired a shot on goal but it was saved by Hunter Peel.
 
William Woods continued to keep the pressure on Avila as Lendell Louis-Jacques fired a shot on goal that was saved over the goal leading to a WWU corner kick. The Owls had another opportunity to score when Moscatello fired a shot on goal that was saved.
 
Avila's only shot on goal came with 9:41 left in the first half of the contest. Joseph Van De Garde took a shot on goal, but Conor Cable recorded the save.
 
WWU had two more opportunities to score when Rhys Wallace and Jordan Henderson fired shots on goal in the first half, but Hunter Peel recorded the saves, keeping the game scoreless at halftime.
 
The Owls defense came big in the second half as they did allow Avila to have a shot in the second half of the game. During the second half, Matheus Schmid put a shot on goal, which Peel saved. Later in the second half, Louis-Jacques fired his second shot on goal and again the Owls were turned away at the goal by Peel.
 
With 12:20 left in the contest, the Owls broke the scoreless tie as Moscatello beat Peel for the first score of the game. This was Moscatello's second goal of the season.
 
The Owls continued did not allow the Eagles to get anything going after the goal and William Woods came away with a 1-0 victory over Avila for its fifth win of the season.
