Women’s Soccer Opens Home Schedule Wednesday

FULTON, Mo. – After playing their first three games on the road, the William Woods University Women's Soccer team will play its first game at Firley Field this season on Wednesday when they host Central Methodist University in a non-conference match at 7 p.m.

About the Owls
- William Woods University enters this matchup with Central Methodist with a 1-1-1 record. The Owls won its last match, September 3, when they defeated Southwest Christian, 2-1.
- Leading the scoring attack for the Owls is Renee Meyer and Shelby Wiebe. Both have one goal on the season
- Rebecca Sturgess ranks 45th in the nation in saves on the season. She has recorded 17 saves this season. She also ranks 48th in the NAIA with a goals against average of 0.93.
- The Owls have taken 21 shots, 10 shots on goal, this season. Leading the way in shots is Shelby Wiebe who has four shots, two of which were on goal. Besides Wiebe, Meyer and Hailey LaCriox have two shots each on goal.

- Central Methodist enters the contest against the Owls with a perfect 4-0 record on the season. On September 4, the Eagles defeated Lindenwood-Belleville, 4-2, which was the last game for Central Methodist
- CMU ranks first in the NAIA in goals scored this season. They have scored 24 goals on the season. They have scored a season-high seven goals in a game twice this season, August 23 against Harris-Stowe and August 27 against Hannibal-LaGrange
- Leading the way for the Eagles is Judith Sainz, who has scored eight goals on the season. With her eight goals, Sainz ranks second in the NAIA
- Sainz is not the only Eagle scoring as Nicki Noreen has six goals on the season which is sixth best in the NAIA
- Central Methodist as recorded three shutouts on the season, third best in the NAIA
 
AMC Player of the Week
- For the second straight week, the William Wood's Rebecca Sturgess has been named the AMC Defensive Player of the Week.
- In the lone game for the Owls, Sturgess recorded six saves and only allowed one goal
- This season, Sturgess is the only student-athlete to be named AMC Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week.
 
What's Next
- The Owls return to action on Saturday, September 10th when they host No. 4 Benedictine (Kan.). Kick-off is set for 6 p.m.
