Men's Basketball Squares Off Thursday With Lyon

FULTON, Mo. - The No. 23 William Woods University Men's Basketball team gears up to play Lyon College on Thursday, January 19 in American Midwest Conference action. Tip-off set for 7:30 p.m. at Anderson Arena.
 
About the Owls
- The Owls enter the contest with an overall record of 13-6 and an AMC record of 7-4
- In the latest edition of the NAIA Division I Men's Basketball Coaches' Top 25 Poll, the Owls were ranked No. 23rd in the nation. This is the first time in program history the Owls were ranked in back-to-back polls
- Deon Pettigrew leads the Owls in points per game. He is averaging 10.7 points per game this season. He scored a season-high 18 points on November 22nd against Haskell
- Jerel Wilhite leads the Owls in assists with 31 on the season. Wilhite also has 11 steals and 36 rebounds on the season
- Junior Brandon Vice leads the Owls with 129 rebounds, averaging 7.17 per game, which has him ranked 30th in the nation
- As a whole, the Owls are ranked 11th in steals with a total of 159 and 19th in assists with 292 on the season
- WWU is averaging 78.6 points per game while allowing 71.9 points per game. William Woods scored a season-high 98 points on November 10th against Moody Bible College

- The Scots enter the contest with an overall record of 9-7 with an AMC record of 4-5
- In the Scots last game on January 12th, Lyon defeated Lindenwood-Belleville, 82-76
- Braden Wendel leads the Scots in two categories, blocks and points. Wendel is averaging 12.81 points per game and has 8 blocks on the season
- Senior Brock Widders leads in assists with 29 on the season and leads in steals with 17 averaging 1.13 per game
- Joe Burt leads the Scots in rebounds with a total of 78 and averaging 4.88 rebounds per game
- Lyon finds itself ranked fifth in the NAIA in scoring defense per game. The Scots are only allowing 63.3 points per game on the season
- The Scots also find themselves ranked 10th in the nation in field goal percentage defense, as they are holding opponents to shoot 39.9 percent from the floor
 
Last Time Verse Lyon
The Owls came away with 78-72 come from behind victory over the Scots. Deon Pettigrew hit a three-pointer putting the Owls head by two, with 41 seconds to go to win the game for WWU. Brandon Vice led the Owls with 28 points on 8-of-10 shooting.
 
What's Next
The Owls host Central Baptist College on Saturday, January 21st with tip-off set at 3 p.m.
