Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men’s Soccer Defeats Lyon, 1-0; Remain Unbeaten in AMC Play

FULTON, Mo. – The William Woods University men's soccer team remained unbeaten in the American Midwest Conference on Saturday as they defeated Lyon College, 1-0. With the win, the Owls improved to 7-0-1 in the AMC and are tied at first place with Columbia College.
 
Anthony Moscatello scored the game winning goal for the Owls. WWU and the Scots were tied at 7-7 in shots on goal in the contest. Conor Cable recorded his eighth shutout of the season. WWU has only allowed one goal in AMC play this season.
 
With the win the Owls improve to 10-2-3 on the season and 7-0-1 in the AMC. The seven wins in the AMC is the most in a single season for the Owls men's soccer program.
 
WWU returns to action on Tuesday, October 17th when they host Harris-Stowe State University in an AMC contest. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m.
 
Game Flow
WWU looked to get the scoring going early in the contest against the Scots. In the first five minutes of the contest, the Owls Anthony Moscatello had a breakaway attempt but Gianni Santin recorded the save.
 
Following Moscatello's attempt the Owls continued to pressure as David Marshall and Pedro Ferro had shots on goal that were saved. The Owls offense continued to attack the net as they had shots going wide or high of goal but could not score.
 
The Scots had its first shot on goal with Robin Hottenbacher had as shot on goal that was saved by Conor Cable. Late in the first half, Lyon had one more scoring chance when Jose Poblete had a shot that Cable saved. The Owls and Scots went into halftime scoreless.
 
Lyon came out on the offensive attack in the second half of the contest as they had three shots go wide and one saved by Cable in the first 10 minutes of the second half. With 21:58 left in the half, the Scot s Ulises Cordova had a shot that Cable saved.
 
Four minutes later, the Owls answered with the lone goal of the contest. Satchel Manley served a ball into the box that Rodrigo Alves settled and then found Moscatello who beat the Scots goalie putting the Owls ahead 1-0.
 
After the Owls goal, the Scots looked to answer as they had a couple shots go wide or high of goal. Omar Fabiola had a shot with 9:44 left that Cable saved keeping the Owls ahead, 1-0. The shots kept coming for Lyon as Cable made two more saves in the contest keeping the Scots off the board.
 
WWU came away with a 1-0 victory over Lyon. With the win the Owls improved to 10-2-3 on the season and 7-0-1 in AMC play.
