Women’s Soccer Records Tenth Win; Defeats Lyon, 5-0

FULTON, Mo. – The William Woods University women's soccer team won its tenth game of the season with a 5-0 victory over Lyon College in American Midwest Conference action on Saturday afternoon at Firley Field.
 
The Owls had four different goal scorers in the contest. Claire Stark led the Owls with two goals in the match. WWU had 10 shots on goal, while limiting the Scots to four in the game.
 
WWU returns to action on Tuesday, October 17th when they host Harris-Stowe State University in an AMC contest. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
 
Game Flow
The Owls wasted little time scoring in the first half as within the first three minutes of the contest, Claire Stark found Jenna Vogt who beat Claire Coley putting the Owls ahead, 1-0.
 
Following the goal, Shelby Scanlan had three shots, two wide and one save. WWU grew its lead to 2-0 with 28:08 left in the first half when Vogt picked up her first assist of the day when she found Aurora Henriksen. Henriksen scored extending the lead to 2-0.
 
Six minutes after Henriksen's goal, Claire Stark scored her first goal of the contest. Stark took a pass from Jaclyn Zilch and beat Coley extending the Owls lead to 3-0 with 22:46 left in the first half.
 
After the Owls third goal, the Scots had three scoring opportunities in the first half, but Rebecca Sturgess recorded the saves on each attempt. WWU took a 3-0 lead into halftime.
 
Five minutes into the second half, the Owls grew its lead to 4-0. Vogt picked up her second assists of the contest when she found Shelby Scanlan who dribbled in and beat Coley. This put the Owls ahead 4-0.
 
WWU kept the offensive pressure on as they had seven more shots over the next 20 minutes of the contest but they could not get another goal in. With 17:48 left in the contest, Colleen Bayer found Stark. Stark took the ball and beat Coley for her second goal of the contest and putting WWU ahead, 5-0.
 
The Owls only allowed the Scots one shot in the second half as Darby Blaylock had a shot with 3:32 left in the contest but the shot went high.
 
WWU came away with a 5-0 victory and extended its winning streak to four games. With the win the Owls improve to 10-4-1 on the season and 7-1-1 in AMC play.
