FULTON, Mo. – The William Woods University women's soccer team extended its winning streak to five games with a 3-0 victory over Harris-Stowe State University in American Midwest Conference action on Tuesday evening.
With the win the Owls improved to 11-4-1 on the season and 8-1-1 in AMC action.
Shelby Scanlan scored two goals on the contest and
Alexis Willingham scored one. WWU outshot the Hornets, 22-2, in the contest.
WWU returns to action on Saturday, October 21st when they host Freed-Hardeman University. Its senior day for the Owls and the Owls seniors will be honored prior to the contest. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
Game Flow
William Woods started the attack early on the Hornets defense. Within the first 30 seconds of the contest, the Owls had a shot go high of goal, a minute later,
Shelby Scanlan missed a shot wide of goal.
WWU continued to pressure Harris-Stowe as the Owls had a shot saved and
Claire Stark had a shot hit the post keeping the game scoreless. With 20:06 left in the first half, the Owls scored its first goal of the game, when
Alexis Willingham scored putting the Owls ahead, 1-0.
After Willingham's goal, the Owls had two more opportunities to score in the contest when Scanlan missed a shot wide and Alex Lanford had a shot on goal that was saved. WWU led 1-0 after halftime.
Within the first four minutes of the second half, the Owls grew its lead to 2-0.
Shelby Wiebe sent a ball into the box that Scanlan headed in growing the Owls lead to 2-0.
Ten minutes later, the Owls grew its lead to 3-0 when Scanlan scored her second goal of the contest. This one unassisted which put the Owls ahead, 3-0.
WWU continued to pressure the Hornets but could not score again as Camila Chaves recorded four saves in the half and the Owls shots were off target.
With 8:39 left in the match, Lizette Popoca had a shot on goal that Sturgess saved. This would be the last shot for the Hornets and WWU came away with a 3-0 victory.
