Women’s Soccer Shutouts Freed-Hardeman, 2-0, On Senior Day

FULTON, Mo. – The William Woods University women's soccer team recorded its third straight shutout with a 2-0 victory over Freed-Hardeman University on Senior Day at Firley Field.
 
Elyssa Cappaert and Claire Stark scored goals for the Owls in the victory. WWU outshot the Lions, 7-5, in the contest. The win for the Owls is its sixth straight. and improve to 12-4-1 on the season and 9-1-1 in AMC play. The nine wins in the AMC is a school record for the Owls. 
 
The Owls return to action on Wednesday, October 25th when they travel to Parkville, Missouri to face Park University. This will be the Owls last regular season contest. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m.
 
Game Flow
WWU came out looking to score early in the contest when Jenna Vogt had a shot on goal that was saved by Erin Douglas. Following WWU's scoring chance, Freed-Hardeman came back with a shot by Sydney Dubiel and Rebecca Sturgess made the save keeping the game scoreless.
 
William Woods continued to look for scoring chances in the first half as Shelby Scanlan had a shot on goal that Douglas saved. Claire Stark also had a shot, but the shot went wide. WWU had two more shots in the first half but could not score.
 
Freed-Hardeman had one shot on goal that Sturgess saved with 19:14 left in the half. WWU and Freed-Hardeman went scoreless into halftime.
 
WWU came out looking to score early in the second half, as they had four shots in the first ten minutes of the second half. Two shots went wide, and two were saved by Douglas keeping the game scoreless.
 
Following the Owls attempts the Lions countered as Samantha Clymer had a shot that Sturgess saved. Later in the second half, Clymer had another shot on goal that looked like an open net, but the Owls defense came up big to stop the ball.
 
With 18:39 left in the contest, the Owls broke the scoreless tie as Aurora Henriksen found Elyssa Cappeart who scored for the Owls. This put WWU ahead, 1-0.
 
WWU continued to put pressure on the Lions defense as they had a corner kick. Alex Langford took the corner kick and sent it into the box where Claire Stark headed the ball to the back of the net putting the Owls ahead, 2-0.
 
Freed-Hardeman had one more shot in the contest. With 3:09 left in the contest Dubiel had a shot that the Owls saved keeping the Lions scoreless. WWU came away with a 2-0 victory over Freed-Hardeman.
