PARKVILLE, Mo. – The William Woods University women's soccer team closed out the regular season with a 2-2 double-overtime draw against Park University.
Aurora Henriksen scored both goals for the Owls in the first half of the contest. WWU was outshot 17-8 in the match to the Pirates.
The Owls clinched the No. 2 seed in the upcoming tournament and will host the quarterfinals on Friday, November 3rd. Stay tuned to wwuowls.com for game time and opponent.
Game Flow
WWU came out and put the first shot on goal in the contest with 37:26 left in the first half as Elyssa Cappaeart had a shot that was saved by Alyssa Gergory. Five minutes later,
Jaclyn Zilch had a shot that was saved by Gregory keeping the game scoreless.
The third shot on goal broke the scoreless tie in the first half. With 10:59 left in the contest,
Aurora Henriksen scored as her shot went in the lower left-hand corner putting the Owls ahead, 1-0. However, the Owls lead only lasted about five minutes.
Park answered back with 5:16 left in the first half as Gabi Severns scored off a Maddy Russell volley tying the game at 1-1.
Henriksen answered back with her second goal of the game right before halftime.
Claire Stark found Henriksen who went lower right-hand corner for her second goal of the game, putting the Owls ahead, 2-1 at halftime.
WWU came out in the second half and
Leah Bonugli had a shot go wide of goal. Later in the half, Henriksen had shot blocked.
Park had two scoring chances within five seconds of each other but
Rebecca Sturgess made back to back saves. First, she recorded the save on Isabel Sullivan's shot and followed it with a save on Emma Chatterton's shot.
With 24 seconds remining in the game and the Owls ahead, 2-1, the Pirates tied the game. Emma Chatterton scored, tying the game forcing overtime.
Park had the only shots in the first overtime period as Sullivan had a shot go wide and then 30 seconds later had a shot saved. The game remained tied heading to a second overtime. In the second overtime period, the Owls were held shotless and Chatterton had the only shot for the Pirates and the game ended in a 2-2 draw.
