ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The William Woods University women's soccer team won its second straight contest with a 5-0 victory over St. Louis College of Pharmacy on Saturday afternoon.
The Owls are 3-0-1 in its last four contests. WWU had goals scored by
Shelby Scanlan,
Elyssa Cappaert and
Claire Stark in the contest. The Owls outshot the Eutectics 27-1 in the match.
WWU returns to action on Tuesday, October 10th when they host No. 5 Columbia College at Firley Field. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m.
Game Flow
The Owls offense came out early and had near misses as
Claire Stark put a ball off the post within the first three minutes of the contest. Thirty seconds later,
Alex Langford fired a shot wide of goal. WWU kept the offensive pressure on the Eutectics defense but they continued to put shots wide or high of goal.
With 25:52 left in the first half,
Aurora Henriksen found
Shelby Scanlan for the first goal of the contest. A minute later, the Owls were on the board again when
Elyssa Cappaert scored on Kylee Lewis putting the Owls ahead, 2-0.
The lone shot for the Eutectics came with 22:35 on the clock when Christina Arackal put a shot on goal that
Rebecca Sturgess saved. William Woods took a 2-0 lead into halftime.
Early in the second half, the Owls offense was on the attack again.
Colleen Bayer had a shot that was saved and 30 seconds later, Scanlan scored her second goal of the contest putting the Owls ahead, 3-0.
William Woods continued to have scoring chances in the match as Henriksen missed a shot wide and had another shot saved. WWU grew the lead to 4-0 after Henriksen found
Claire Stark for a goal. Later in the second half, Stark scored her second goal of the contest extending the Owls lead to 5-0.
The Owls came away with a 5-0 victory and improved to 8-4-1 on the season and 5-1-1 in AMC action.
