PARKVILLE, Mo. – The William Woods University women's basketball team won its second straight American Midwest Conference contest on Saturday afternoon with a 74-56 victory at Park University.
Jasmine Brown led the way for the Owls 24 points on the contest.
Kaycee Gerald followed with 15 points in the contest.
Hannah Bland led the Owls with nine rebounds. WWU shot 46.3 percent from the floor for the contest. William Woods shot 19-of-25 from the free throw line.
WWU returns to action on Thursday, November 30th when they host Missouri Baptist University in AMC action. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m.
Game Flow
The Owls and Pirates came out trading baskets for the first quarter. Park held a 7-3 lead after a three-pointer by Deja Johnson-Ford. After her three, the Pirates build a lead of 11-7. WWU answered and the Owls
Jasmine Brown gave the Owls a 12-11 lead with 5:15 to go in the first quarter. WWU grew its lead to 22-16 after a
Lexy Ganaway three-pointer. However, the Owls would not score again in the quarter and the Pirates scored the final five points and WWU led 22-21 after the first quarter.
In the second quarter, Park took a one-point lead, 23-22, before the Owls went on a 10-2 run taking a 32-25 lead with 4:23 left in the contest. During the run,
Jasmine Brown scored four points. WWU continued to score and a two-point field goal by
Peyton Greenlee put the Owls ahead 34-27. WWU scored four more points in the quarter and took an eight-point lead, 38-30, into halftime.
The Pirates come out in the third quarter scoring the first four points of the quarter trimming the Owls lead down to four, 38-34. After the lead was cut to four, the Owls went on a 9-2 run that was capped by a Greenlee field goal in the paint that put the Owls ahead by 11, 47-36. WWU continued to lead and extended its lead to 14, 57-43, after a
Tori Nesslage jumper. WWU led 57-43 after three quarters of play.
The Owls continued to hold onto the lead and after trading baskets with the Pirates the Owls led 63-49, with 4:53 left in the contest. WWU continued to add to its lead and a pair of free throws by
Kaycee Gerald put the Owls ahead 68-51. WWU stretched the lead to 19, 70-51 after a Brown field goal. WWU did not let the Pirates back in the contest and came away with a 74-56 victory.
