Greenlee Leads Women’s Basketball Past Mount Mercy

COLUMBIA, Mo. – Sophomore Peyton Greenlee scored 28 points as she led the William Woods University women's basketball team to an 85-69 victory over Mount Mercy University to close out the Cougar Classic on Saturday afternoon.
 
After trailing by three after the first quarter, the Owls outscored the Mustangs by 19 points over the final three quarters of play. Greenlee led a trio of Owls in double-figures with 28. Jasmine Brown followed with 18 points and Hannah Bland added 17. WWU shot 48.5 percent from the floor in the contest.

For their performances over the last two days, Peyton Greenlee and Jasmine Brown were named to the 2017 All-Classic Team. 
 
WWU returns to action on Wednesday, November 8th when they host College of the Ozarks at 7 p.m. at Anderson Arena. This will be the Owls first home game of the season.
 
Game Flow
The Mustangs offense came out and built an early seven-point lead, 9-2, over the Owls in the first three minutes of the contest. WWU slowly started chipping away at Mount Mercy's lead and had it down to five, 13-8, with 3:29 left in the quarter. WWU trimmed the lead down to three, 15-12, after the first quarter of play.
 
The Mustangs led 21-16 with 7:30 to go in the first half after Nyawal Dak three-pointer. After the three, the Owls scored the next eight points taking a 24-21 lead a Greenlee layup. After trading baskets, and the game tied at 26-26 the Owls closed out the half on a 15-2 run to out the first half. WWU took a 41-28 lead into halftime.
 
The Owls continued to stretch its lead in the second half as Greenlee had jumper in the paint that put the Owls ahead by 20, 48-28, with 7:50 left in the contest. WWU continued to hold a demanding lead as a jumper by Sommer Burgard put the Owls ahead, by 21, 55-34. The Mustangs started coming back late in the third quarter as they trimmed the Owls lead down to 14, 59-45, after three quarters of play.
 
William Woods continued to hold onto a double-figure lead in the fourth quarter and with seven minutes left in the quarter, WWU's Brown hit a jumper in the paint and they led 70-54. WWU continued to grow its lead and after a jumper by Greenlee put the Owls ahead by 17, 79-62. William Woods did not let the Mustangs back in the contest as they came away with a 85-69 victory.
