COLUMBIA, Mo. – The William Woods University men's basketball team closed out the Cougar Classic with an 89-68 loss to Olivet Nazarene University on Saturday afternoon.
DaShaun Stark led the Owls with 14 points in the contest. Shad Kimble followed with 13 points. Brandon Vice and Brian Enriquez rounded out the double-figure scorers for the Owls with 12 and 10 points respectfully. WWU shot 38.1 percent for the contest.
For their performances over the two day Cougar Classic, DaShaun Stark and Darrien Dickey were named to the 2017 All-Classic team.
The Owls return to action on Tuesday, November 7th when they travel to Fayette, Missouri to face Central Methodist University. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
Game Flow
The Tigers came out and only missed one shot to open the contest and led 7-2 early in the game. The Owls and Tigers would trade baskets and after a layup by DaShaun Stark the Owls trailed 11-9 with 16:55 to go in the first half.
After trailing by two, the Owls shooting cooled off and Olivet Nazarene went on an 8-0 run taking a 19-9 lead. The Owls looked as if they were coming back as they chipped away at the Tigers lead and got it down to seven, 22-15, after a Shad Kimble jumper.
However, after the lead was at seven, Olivet Nazarene grew the lead to as many as 15 points, 35-20, with 6:32 to go in the first half. WWU continued to chip away at the lead, but went into halftime trailing, 45-32.
Opening the second half, the Owls went on a 9-2 run, trimming the Tigers lead down to six, 47-41 with 16 minutes to go in the contest. After trading a few baskets, Stark hit a three-pointer trimming the Tigers lead to five, 52-47.
After the was at five, Olivet Nazarene went on a 12-2 run taking its lead back to 15 points, 64-49, with 9:57 left in the contest. WWU continued to battle but could not get the lead back to single digits in the contest and the Owls were defeated by the Tigers, 89-68.
