FULTON, Mo. – The William Woods University men's basketball team defeated Culver-Stockton College, 95-83, in the Owls home opener. This is the Owls second victory over the Wildcats in the last week.
Shad Kimble and Brian Enriquez led the Owls with 19 points each in the contest. WWU had five players score in double figures. WWU shot 42.1 percent from the floor in the contest. The Owls had 48 points in the paint.
William Woods returns to action on Monday, November 13th when they travel to Point Lookout, Missouri to face College of the Ozarks. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
Game Flow
Culver-Stockton came out and scored the first three points taking a 3-0 lead over the Owls. WWU came back and a pair of free-throws by Darrien Dickey put WWU down one, 3-2. Culver Stockton answered by scoring the next five and taking an 8-2 lead over WWU.
William Woods slowly started to answer back as a jumper in the paint by DaShaun Stark tied the game at 10-10 with 14:30 left in the first half. WWU took the lead at 13-10 after a Shad Kimble three pointer. The Owls slowly build a lead of five points, 18-13, after Kimbles second three of the contest.
The Owls continued to build its lead and stretched the lead to 14 points, 30-16 with 9:10 to go in the first half. WWU led by double figures for the remainder of the first half and took a 13-point lead, 48-35, into halftime.
Over the first two minutes and 10 seconds of the second half, the Owls stretched its lead to 21, 58-37, after four free throws by Enriquez and two jumpers in the paint by Stark. The Wildcats would not go away quietly as they chipped the lead down to 16, 58-42, after a Mike Johnson fast break layup.
Five straight points by the Owls, a three by Shamari Denson and a layup by Brandon Vice, grew the Owls lead back to 21 points. Culver-Stockton continued to battle and after a pair of free throws by Rob McCalley the Owls lead was back to 15 points, 66-51.
William Woods continued to hold onto a double-figure lead and the Wildcats continued to battle and after a pair of free throws by Campbell Millar the Owls 20-point lead was down to 14, 79-65. Again, the Owls stretched the lead back to 20 points befor the Wildcats battled back getting the lead to 11 points after a jumper by Dion Collins.
With 2:04 left the Owls led by 11, 88-77. WWU closed out the victory at the free throw line as they went five-for-six over the final two minutes of the contest. William Woods came away with a 95-83 victory over Culver-Stockton.
