COLUMBIA, Mo. – The William Woods University women's soccer team was defeated by Columbia College, 3-0, in the American Midwest Conference Championship Finals on Thursday evening at Columbia College.
William Woods was outshot in the contest, 23-2, for the game. WWU and Columbia was scoreless at halftime before the Cougars came out and scored three second half goals. WWU recorded eight saves in the match.
The Owls will wait to see where and who they will play in the NAIA Women's Soccer Opening Round. The qualifiers and bracket will be revealed via live video selection show on Monday, November 13 at 11 a.m. CDT on the NAIA Website.
Game Flow
Columbia came out and put pressure on the Owls defense as they had a shot within a minute of the contest starting. They continued to put pressure on the Owls and Rebecca Sturgess made four saves in the first 20 minutes of the contest.
With 25:11 left in the first half, the Owls got its first shot of the contest when Claire Stark had a shot that just went wide of goal.
After Stark's shot the Owls did not get another shot in the first half, and the Cougars continued to attack the Owls. The Owls defense contained the Cougars and the game went scoreless into halftime.
Like the first half, the Cougars came out looking to score early in the second half as they had the first goal of the contest within the first 53 seconds of the second half starting as Molly Klein scored. Three minutes later Molly Klein added her second goal of the contest putting the Cougars ahead, 2-0.
With 18:53 left in the contest, the Owls got its second and last shot attempt of the game when Aurora Henriksen put a shot on goal that Madison Boyken saved.
Columbia's Kelsey Mirts added a goal with 1:19 left in the contest putting the Cougars ahead, 3-0. WWU would fall to Columbia, 3-0 in the AMC Championship Finals.
