FULTON, Mo. – The William Woods University softball team won its first two American Midwest Conference contest on Tuesday afternoon as the Owls swept the Stephens College Stars. WWU took game one, 22-1, and game two, 7-5.

WWU returns to action on Friday, March 24th when they host Lyon College at Owl Field. First pitch of the doubleheader is scheduled for 10Â a.m.

Game One
Game Flow
After giving up a run in the top of the first inning of game one, the Owls offense came alive in the bottom of the first as they scored 12 runs. It all began with
Hannah Campbell as she hit a leadoff triple, and
Dacrie Depping singled putting runners on the corners.
Brailee Schulte followed with a singled, scoring Campbell putting WWU ahead, 1-0. The rest of the Owl lineup would get their chance as they hit around the lineup twice. In her second at bat of the inning, Campbell hit a grand slam on a 0-1 count, extending the Owls lead to 8-0. The Owls would score four more runs before the end of the first inning.

The Owls would add three runs in the bottom of the third when
Madison McCormick doubled to left center with two outs.
Hillary Hentges would add a double of her own, scoring McCormick.
Regan Wilde would then come up to the box and hit her first homerun, putting the Owls ahead 15-1.

The bottom of the fourth would be another hit parade for the Owls as they tacked on another seven runs, putting the Owls ahead, 22-1. In the inning,
Alexi Cavins,
Jessica Bradfisch, Olivia Imoff, and Campbell all collected RBI hits in the inning.

After allowing the one run in the first inning, Owls starter
Allison Waskow settled down. In the first inning, Waskow gave up two hits to the Stars. After she got out of the first, Stephens could not get anything going against her as over the next four innings of the contest, Waskow only allowed one hit to the Stars. During the final four innings of the contest, Waskow struck out three.

Game Two
Game Flow
After a 1-2-3 top of the first inning, the Owls started game two much like game one, as they scored seven runs in the bottom of the first. Campbell got the hits going as she led off with a single. Campbell went to second on a stolen base and advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by Depping. Campbell scored on a single from putting WWU ahead, 1-0.
Beth Begemann reached on a walk, and Schulte advanced to second.
Madison McCormick would then add a three-run homerun and four batters later,
Lindsay Van Tress would add a three-run homerun of her own, extending the Owls lead to 7-0.

After the first inning, the pitchers took over as they only allowed three hits combined until the Stars bats came to life in the top of the fifth inning. Stephens answered for four runs in the inning on five hits and took advantage of one Owls error. Coming up big for the Stars was Sarah Dooley, Katie Heaton as they collected RBI hits in the frame. After four and a half innings were complete, the Owls lead was down to three, 7-4.

The Stars continued chipping away at the Owls lead. In the sixth inning, they struck for another run. Jamie Martin grounded out and on the play; Monica Nakamatsu scored putting the Owls lead down to 7-5.

With the score at 7-5 in favor of the Owls,
Sierra Jacques, who came in relief, struck two of the three hitters out and got another to ground out. The Owls came away with a 7-5 victory over Stephens in game two.
