MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The William Woods University softball team split its pair of games on Monday at the Fastpitch Dreams Spring Classic held at Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. The Owls dropped game one, 5-3, to No. 24 Rio Grande before rebounding in the second game of the day by beating Roosevelt, 9-1, in five innings.
WWU returns to action on Wednesday, March 8 when they play Malone University at 8:30 a.m. CT and Waldorf at 10:30 a.m. CT.

The Owls came out against the University of Rio Grande with hot bats.
Hannah Campbell opened up the game with a leadoff single and
Beth Begemann came up big hitting a two-run homerun with two outs and putting the Owls ahead 2-0.
The Owls defense would limit the Red Storm in the bottom of the first, not allowing a run to be scored. The Owls would not be able to string any hits in the second as they went 1, 2, 3 in the inning.
The Red Storm would cause a riot when Kelsey Conkey hit a leadoff single and teammate Kari Jenkins and Gabby Gregg each followed with a single of their own, loading the bases. After an out, Michaela Criner came up and tripled scoring two runs tying the game at 2-2.
it would not be until the fourth inning that either team would score again. The Owls would string a few hits together as
Olivia Imhoff sparked the offense with a single and Campbell followed with a double, scoring Imhoff, putting the Owls ahead, 3-2.
It would not take the Red Storm long to answer back. Criner hit a single, and Brittany Walk reached on a walk. Alex Stevens hit a timely single, scoring Criner and Walk, grabbing the lead at 4-3. The Owls would come up in the seventh for their last chance at bat and would get a runner in scoring position, but would fall short losing to the No. 24th ranked team in the nation, 5-3.

In the second outing against Roosevelt University, the Owls came out strong right out of the gate. Despite the fact that the Lakers scored first, the Owls retaliated scoring two of their own when Campbell reached by an error, and
Dacrie Depping reached on a walk, putting runners on first and second. The Owls took advantage of Lakers mishaps and at the bottom of the first and WWU took a 2-1 lead.
It was not until the fourth inning that the Owls bust out the bats.
Sierra Jacques reached on a walk and
Hannah Campbell added another triple to her archive, scoring Jacques. Campbell then scored on an error. Begemann then came up and hit a double, scoring Depping.
Amanda Bouchey would add her double, scoring Begemann extending the Owls lead to 7-1.
After allowing a run in the first inning, Owls starter
Bre Logan settled down and only allowed the Lakers to one more hit for the contest. During her time in the circle, Logan struck out five batters and she picked up her fourth win of the season.
The Owls would then finish off the Lakers when they would add three more runs, causing the run rule effect to be in order Owls win 9-1.
