Softball Swept by Missouri Baptist

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The William Woods University Softball team was swept by Missouri Baptist University on Saturday afternoon. The Owls dropped game one, 3-0, and dropped game two, 3-2. With the losses the Owls fall to 20-15 on the season and 6-6 in American Midwest Conference action.
 
WWU returns to action on Monday, April 3rd when they travel to Canton, Missouri to face Culver-Stockton College in non-conference action. First pitch is set for 2 p.m.
 
Game One
Game Flow

The Spartans came out and scored a run in the first inning as Kayla Thoron hit a sacrifice fly in the inning putting MBU ahead, 1-0.
 
The Owls offense was shut down in the first two innings by the Spartans Andrea Chessor. WWU got to Chessor in the top of the third when Amanda Bouchey hit a double. Bouchey advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt, but would be left stranded.
 
Missouri Baptist added to its lead in the bottom of the third inning, as Caitlin McNiff singled. Jordan Corby followed with a triple to left center extending the Spartans lead to 2-0.
 
The top of the fourth the Owls inning would start with a single by Dacrie Depping and a sacrifice bunt by Ari Arnold would put Depping in scoring position. Depping would make it to third base, on fly out by Alli Massey, but once again, the Owls offense could not generate a run.
 
The Owls would attempt to score again in the sixth when Hanna Campbell hit a leadoff single, but Spartans got Depping to hit into a fielders' choice and Campbell was retired. Arnold would reach on an error and runners would be on first and second. WWU hit into another fielder's choice and Massey struck out to end the inning and the Owls threat.
 
The Spartans added its third run of the contest in the bottom of the sixth inning on a single by Chessor. Chessor than proceeded to retire the first two hitters of the Owls before allowing a hit to Lindsay Van Tress. After the hit, Chessor struck out Beth Begemann to end the contest and the Owls dropped game one, 3-0.

Game Flow

Like game one, the Spartans scored the first run of the contest as they scored in the bottom of the first inning when Shelby Poropat collected an RBI single scoring one and putting Missouri Baptist ahead, 1-0.
 
In the top of the second inning, Amanda Bouchey hit a triple with two outs. Lindsay Van Tress would then hit a home run, putting the Owls ahead, 2-1.
 
The Spartans would answer back with a run of their own, tying the game at 2-2. The Spartans would then score another in the bottom of the third, taking the lead 3-2.
 
The Owls would come up in the fourth with a double by Bouchey. After the second out of the inning, Brailee Schulte drew a walk putting two runners on base for the Owls. However, pinch hitter Hillary Hentges could not get the key hit and the inning ended.
 
William Woods pitching kept the Spartans bats quiet for the reminder of the contest and the Owls could not get anything going as they were defeated 3-2 in game two of the doubleheader.
